Three pages removed from episode 133
Added 2025-06-02 05:00:04 +0000 UTCEpisode 133 of Berserk, titled クシャーン斥候① (Kushan Scouts (1)) was published in Young Animal #1 of 1999, which was released on Christmas day, 1998. It's a notable episode because it introduces the character of Isidro. It also sees the return of the Bakiraka under a new form, which we discover in the following episode is commanded by Silat.
While it's a great sequence from beginning to end, this particular episode is also noteworthy because its last three pages were omitted in the volume. As a result, it's only 17 pages long in volume 18. There is no official explanation as to why they were removed, but we can guess.
They were redundant with the beginning of episode 134, which features a superior depiction (longer, more detailed, more badass) of that initial attack. Miura may have deemed that it was preferable to keep the fighting sequence within a single episode instead of splitting it in half. It might be that as he drew episode 134, he felt it would have a stronger start this way, and that episode 133 would benefit from ending on more of a cliffhanger.
The fact Guts' line from the last page of episode 133 is repeated on the sixth page of episode 134 seems to support that hypothesis. Speaking of, it's worth noting that the bottom panel of said last page was used on the volume's title page, so at least this one bit made the cut.
