I commented this a bit ago, but, if you want to watch another wonderful Steven King / Kathy Bates movie, check out "Dolores Claiborne" from 1995.
It's nothing at all like Misery. I won't spoil whether or not Kathy is playing as the bad guy again, or maybe someone we're supposed to root for. But I will say I think you'll really enjoy the specific kind of energy the movie radiates.

This movie is so disturbing. I have broking both of my legs before, and it sucks, but I didn't have someone like Annie Wilkes taking care of me and hobbling me every time they got mad. My experience being laid up was more like the movie Rear Window.

The book actually does build tension very well. This is arguably the best movie adaptation of a Stephen King novel, though The Green Mile is also excellent. Kathy Bates won a well deserved Oscar for her chilling portrayal of Annie Wilkes. If you’re interested, the second season of the short lived tv series Castle Rock explores Annie’s backstory a bit.
