I was definitely caught off guard initially but I get where she’s coming from.

What she implies by that is not to belittle him but to keep himself safe from dangerous situations. Hence why she said that line about leaving it to cops if it comes to those. She wants her family life and her husband intact. He came home injured and is having nightmares at night, which probably didn't happen before. I'm sure there was a better way to say it though, but it's also one of those jabs you take at someone you really are close to so there's no ill intent (the intonation was also light hearted) :p
