I found the wind simulation button in Daz3d, did that manually up until this point. Look, wusssshhhh. Also playing around with some color adjustment settings.
I've now looked at some other recommendations for changes to my image creation/editing process, and there is one thing many of them have in common. They all suggest rendering at twice the size and then downsizing back to the desired resolution.
I have now tested this several times and compared the current resolution (2k) with a higher number of iterations to make it fair, and the new method, 4k with a lower number of iterations. The new one looks better in the end result in pretty much each testrender I did. I'm going to try this for chapter 3. Since I still have about 3 hours downtime of the 8 hours available for rendering overnight, this shouldn't be a problem.
