I hate technical wrestling. I find it so boring. That’s why I’ve never been a fan of Bret Hart or Daniel Bryan.

Heres my opinion on technical wrestling I don't like submissions as a holding spot that bores me a bit but submissions as finishers that try to win a match I like and get excited if it will end the match or not wat I like about zsj he has multiple submission finishers to tap people out which is cool zsj I think is a great wrestler I watch him if he's on this patreon or an aew joint njpw show but I won't go out my way and look for a zsj match as his style dont excite me it more the holding spots that put me off the zsj matches I think over time he don't do holding spots as much as he did like in the cruiserweight classic wwe did he did then and felt for like 5 mins and it was a bit boring but hes fantastic wrestler defo one of best in world but not one of my favs that I wanna watch I agree with josh

This was overall a very good show, Gabe Kidd and Yota Tsuji had a very arguably even better co-main event, which made people very hopeful for NJPW having a good year.

A good analogy to understand the magnitude of Goto winning the title would maybe be when Kofi Kingston won the WWE title, without the racial implications. Or Dolph Ziggler further back. Basically, a promising future star who was a fan favorite, but fans had lowkey started giving up on because they thought they thought they would never actually end up doing it and instead be a perpetual accomplished midcarder. Let's hope his run is better than Dolph and Kofi's. 😭 It was far from a foregone conclusion, very much a 66/33 in favor of goto, given that Zack hadn't held the title for that long. Wrestling is very exciting when a match truly feels like it could go either way.

Thanks for reading my comment and can’t wait for y’all to see my post later on this batch it will be my first post in the tally tier!

The longer he took to translate the more anxious I got that you were going to pause or mute it 😂 Can't remember what Goto said but I think he said something along the lines of the idiot has become the champion. Been trying to learn Japanese so I don't need to rely on translation but my god its so hard lol.

Michael Hay

I feel like i waited a very fair amount of time for a translation 😆

Found it funny that you asked for a translation of what Goto said in his promo and muted it right as the comentator was about to give a full translation lol. Goto winning was so lovely New Japan has been great this year. Hope you get around to watching Goto vs Omega in the 2016 G1 final its as great as it sounds.

What’s interesting is that even though, as you mentioned, the backstory made it seem like Goto was likely going to win, at the same time that was the reason there was so much doubt for many in regards to the outcome of the match. I doubt anyone had Goto winning the title on their bingo cards for 2025, he had been the bridesmaid so many times and at this point in his career it seemed like the ship had sailed for him as a true top guy. Despite all of these things, Goto still won, and even though I had convinced myself he was the likely winner by the time the match happened it was still a pleasant surprise actually seeing him with the belt after all this time. Also the reason why there was no translations of Goto’s post-match promo is because Chris Charlton, who is the commentator who does the translations, was suspended at the time due to making some less than flattering remarks about AEW during Wrestle Dynasty. He has returned to commentary since this match has taken place.

You didn't see Goto at WrestleKingdom - He was in the pre-show rumble match. He won that rumble to gain this title opportunity here.

A little more context: This match is Goto's first World Title challenge in 9 YEARS, his last one before this was at the same event & the same building. This is also his 9th attempt overall, having lost all eight prior: 1. 11/11/07, Destruction, vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi: loss 2. 8/31/08, Pro-Wrestling Love in Ryōgoku Vol. 5, vs. Keiji Muto: loss 3. 5/3/09, Wrestling Dontaku, vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi: loss 4. 4/4/10, New Dimension, vs. Shinsuke Nakamura: loss 5. 6/18/11, Dominion, vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi: loss 6. 5/3/12, Wrestling Dontaku, vs. Kazuchika Okada: loss 7. 2/11/14, The New Beginning in Osaka, vs. Kazuchika Okada: loss 8. 2/11/16, The New Beginning in Osaka, vs. Kazuchika Okada: loss 9. **2/11/25, The New Beginning in Osaka, vs. Zack Sabre Jr.: win** To describe Goto's career with example of someone from WWE, it would be Sami & Shinsuke. He's like Sami in the sense of always being consistently great worker with huge fan following but struggling to win the big one. But at the same time it's weird that he's also a greatly accomplished performer like Shinsuke, having won dozen championship & major tournaments in New Japan, including G1 Climax, back in 2008 which was 17 YEARS AGO. There was a time when people complaining about Goto losing the big ones as much as Okada winning the big ones lol. For whatever reason, either he was unfortunately on the same era with much bigger stars like Tanahashi, Okada, Omega to name a few, or when NJPW had a chance, they just put him somewhere down the midcard or stuck in tag team division; however, the man never gave up & always perform to his best ability regardless of the position he was in. Therefore, it's so rewarding for Goto fans & New Japan fans in general, who have followed his journey throughout all these years, to witness his crowning moment.

OH GOD. Have not started to watch yet, did not expect your reaction to this since it's pretty recent. I was hoping somebody lead you guys through all of Goto's previous title challenges first before watching this for the emotional element. Let's see what happens.
