Sneak Peek: Ancestral Lineages of Hemelin

Hey secret door gang!

Niels is always working to expand our roster of playable Ancestries with solid roots in the lore of Hemelin. We have no plans to publish playtests for any of the Ancestries featured here just yet - we just want to give you a peek of what we're thinking about.

The chart included with this post also explores how all of the Ancestries of Hemelin may be related to one-another. Ancestries that are greyed out have already been published, either officially or as playtest. Today's post focuses on the Ancestries we haven't posted anything about.

A brief explanation of each new Ancestry:

Colos
Enormous humanoids with tough skin and who can completely turn to stone - like all other stonekin. Has unique advantages and disadvantages because of their size.

Troll
Big-bodied fey who have impressive regenerative abilities. Player character trolls are smaller than their "monster" counterparts, can be a lot cleverer, and can control when to turn to stone.

Folg
Cute little frog people with a fey heritage. Breathe air and water, great swim speed, good jump distance.

Pixie
Tiny (not Small) flying fey that can generate pixie dust to give others temporary flight. Their size gives them unique advantages, but also severe restrictions - particularly for martial characters.

Ordal
Humanoids with elemental bodies - fire, earth, water and air. They have innate magic tied to their element. (The name for this one is in constant flux and will probably change a few more times before we settle on the final version)

Klakik
Insect-like humanoids that can communicate with their own kin using pheromones. Their traits vary tremendously depending on the type of insect body they have, for example: large pincers, gliding wings, poison sting.

C'thood
Humanoids with cephalopod-like heads. Have minor telepathy. Originate from a sinister species (C'thrall) of sinister aberrations who lay eggs in humanoids' heads that take over those bodies when they hatch.

Ewook
Hairy ape-like orcs in the style of bigfoot and yeti. They have long reach, and fur that protects them from the elements.

Fade
Elves permanently transformed by the dark energies of the shadow realm. Their bodies (not clothes) are invisible while in complete darkness. They don't need to sleep, but meditate instead - like their elven forebears.

Spirian
The self-declared identity of people from Silver Spires who have shared human and elish ancestry.

This is unlikely to ever be published as a separate Ancestry, since the Ancestry & Culture mechanics include mechanics for mixed ancestry characters.

Automaton
A type of robot created by the inventors of Silver Spires. They don't need to eat, instead, they must gather power from a choice of sources: fairies, spell cells, junk, magic, and so forth. Their traits include specialised body parts that replicate the function of various items.

Beastling
An ancestry created by the wizards of Gorr to help fight the armies of Terrorius. Beastlings have a choice of various beastial traits, and can look mostly human, mostly beastly and anything in-between. Some can shift between a human and beastling form. Due to the unstable magic of their creation, their offspring have completely random beastly traits - or none at all.

We hope you enjoyed this preview! You'll likely see these new Ancestries show up in the sketch pages Niels shares on social media.

Let us know if you're excited to see more of any of these Ancestries, or if you're keen to play one!

- Niels
