Sneak Peek: The Council of Spiria

Hello Secret Door Club!

We have been hard at work this month to make some tweaks to ACT1 of the Stars of the Sea adventure. The biggest change we're making is that the players will no longer work directly for Marlon Wallace. Instead, they will work for the Council of Spiria: A governing body that seats representatives from various important factions throughout Silver Spires.

To support the edits we're making to older Quest Packs, we're using Quest Pack 10 to introduce a new feature to Stars of the Sea: Factions. The player characters will be able to complete Quests for various organisations within the council, and earn favours and rewards from them by doing so.

Below is a preview of each of the factions we're introducing, and the characters that represent these factions on the council.

THE INVENTOR'S GUILD

The inventor's guild stands for innovation and progress within Silver Spires. Their purpose is to push the boundaries of both the material and the magical sciences, to tread into the unknown and to create marvels unseen.

The guild encourages competition among its members, and those who accrue the most fame and fortune with their spells and devices quickly rise within the ranks of the guild.

THE MIDDENER'S UNION

The Middener's union was created to represent the workers of the middens, many of whom work in silver spires as cleaners, builders and garbage collectors. Together, they are able to demand a seat at the council, and influence Spirian decision making.

THE NIGHTLIGHTS

The Nightlights are a well connected group that represents various entertainers and bards. Most taverns that want to put on a show for their patrons contact the Nightlights, who will then find a performer they deem appropriate for the venue, and negotiate a fair wage on behalf of the performer.

The Nightlights also keep one of the largest collections of lore outside of the spiral library, in the form of the Elvensong Archive, located in Seerak’s college. This archive has collected centuries of elven songs, myths and legends, carefully preserved and curated by the nightlights.

THE FEARIE CIRCLE

The Faerie Circle was founded to protect the interests of the fey creatures that live in Silver Spires, and to monitor and ensure their wellbeing. 

They are supported by a loose collection of druids, spiritualists and sages who maintain the many parks of the Spiritspire Gardens, tend to the spirits of the dead, and care for the fey in town. They resist breaking tradition or change, wishing to maintain the centuries-old spiritual customs of the ancient elven tribes that founded silver spires.

The purpose of the Fisher's Fleet is to unite all sailors, fishers and crabbers in Silver Spires under an organisation with strong negotiating power. The Fisher's Fleet is a group of experienced sea-goers who know the waves and everything beneath. They aim to preserve the oceanic ecosystem, keep the practice of fishing and crabbing strong, and help others traverse the seas safely.

We hope you enjoyed this preview! It is only a small part of the updates coming to Stars of the Sea this month. We've been considering making some changes to ACT1 for a while, and we think introducing the Council of Spiria will make the story of the Stars of the Sea campaign more flexible and adaptable to the individual play-styles of different groups.
