--IMPORTANT SMARTER EVERY DAY UPDATE--
Added 2020-07-08 15:29:21 +0000 UTC
Thank you so much for supporting me on Patreon!
Please watch this video for an IMPORTANT UPDATE.
All tiers and tax structures on The Smarter Every Day Patreon page are now updated. At most, sales tax should only be charged on 5% on donations but most will be only 1-3% (in the US). These laws are location dependent so I did my best to optimize.
** No-tier patrons - If you can input your info in this form we can still send you one of the baseballs when they go out. https://forms.gle/W9yqioGqvDrQ4zU38 Unfortunately if you are at a custom giving level Patreon gives no way to enter the mailing address. **
To add your address:
1. Login to your Patreon account https://www.patreon.com/
2. In the upper right hand corner, click on "User Profile Photo", as it is labeled in the Patreon settings (based on how you login, this could be your Facebook or Google profile picture).
3. From the dropdown menu that appears, select "Manage Memberships."
4. There are three columns organizing your membership data. The third is labeled "Shipping Address."
5. Scroll through your memberships until you find SED and then click "update" in the "Shipping Address" column.
6. Either select a mailing address you have previously saved or select "Add New Address".
7. Once you have entered your address be sure to click the save button at the bottom of the pop-up window.
8. Thank You So Much!
Hi Destin, You have encouraged me to keep learning throughout my studies as a computer and electronic engineer for the last 6 years.
This year I finally started working and earning my own money! So I'm very happy to finally be able to show you my appreciation by becoming a patron. You have kept my curiosity alive and continue to do so.
Thank you for your valuable input into my life and I hope to learn more from you and your channel.

Destin, have you ever considered putting your content on Floatplane.com? As a platform, it seems to align closely with your philosophy of direct notifications and directly supporting you without dependence on a fickle algorithm.

You have reignited something inside of me. I'm back on the physics track. Would love to do some veteran stuff with you.
2021-12-23 05:44:05 +0000 UTC
Hi Destin, I am a big fan since your early days. I really appreciate your work and your mindset. And I think, with your growing projects and growing video size, it's time for me to step up one level in patreon. I had this in mind for a while since I received your gift. This video put me to action.
I really want you to have the total freedom to decide, whatever you like to make videos about, what they contain and how long they should be. And to have time for your family.
Naturally, I do like some videos more or less than others. (i.e. I prefer the more basic ones, physics, technics over those at facebook and so on).
However, it's most important, that you create YOUR content, based on your personality. Cause this is, what brings most diversity and new insights for all of us.
Thanks for sharing your sight of the world with us.

Resist!
2021-12-04 03:24:00 +0000 UTC
Destin. I'm a huge fan, an engineer (BSME from Purdue, successful software engineer at Silicon Valley startups, Aero engineer at Lockheed Martin - I worked on THAAD and MKV.) I've been all over the map. The video on keeping your own voice is the one that caused me to join your Patreon. Don't change. Don't do it. Having been on "the inside" (and I know you've been pretty deep there with your series on social media manipulation) the algorithms are *intended* to shape to the content, but in reality it's a conversation. Don't make shorter clips for the *gram, make an obscenely expensive pressurized/vacuum gun to obliterate mayo. That's the content we're here for, and if YouTube gets their game together, that's where the monetization should go. The algorithm is the equation, the human is the human, and YouTube being about content, the human is more important. They'll figure it out if the metrics point that way.
2021-12-01 19:00:02 +0000 UTC
Hmm, I didn't know that haha. So I guess they just run openly counter to that :O Openness of business is at least as important as openness of tech when it comes to trust & security.
It's the combination of best practices, open source AND nonprofit status that makes Signal a trusted secure platform.

Destin, be careful in saying "Here's the deal though." With the southern accent it comes across as "Here's the dildo." Yes, I have a southern accent as well.

Except the "Don't be Evil" was never actually removed. It's still there at the bottom of the Code of Conduct.
https://abc.xyz/investor/other/google-code-of-conduct/
2021-10-28 03:08:42 +0000 UTC
My one 4Privacy concern ATM is lack of a public business model. It's perhaps more pivotal in terms of long-term responsibility. Some form of highly regulated Non-Profit designation (like Signal) would be ideal but, in general, a clear alignment of business incentives with "doing good" is crucial to keeping projects like this on the rails long term.
Think: Google maintained a high level of responsibility in it's early years, until enough turnover + misaligned $$ incentives pulled it into some pretty damaging decisions/practices. Followed by removing the "Don't be Evil" slogan.

I don't know if i will receive the baseball, as i'm too late here. But just being able to support this awesome channel, is woth it.
2021-09-17 04:01:38 +0000 UTC
Your video about supersonic baseball made me enjoy my current degree in electrical engineering once again. I was ready to give up cause math became harder every class, and i wasn't understanding things anymore. You have shown me how math and physics can be used to make awesome things. You gave me a purpose. I want to make awesome things. Thank you Dustin, from my hearth.

Great work my friend , innovative clever and inspiring well done cheers
2021-09-05 12:15:01 +0000 UTC
I’d like to thank Destin for his efforts of sending the baseballs and ofcourse all the efforts he puts into his videos! I must have been one of the first to recieve my baseball, must have gotten it 6-7 weeks after the video went up (I live in the Netherlands) I kept it in it’s wrapper and it now has a proud location in my showcase cabinet.
2021-08-01 16:36:03 +0000 UTC
After I watched the carburetor video I had to become a patron!!! And I sent to all my kids and nephews. Awesome work! Thanks!

Got my baseball today. Awesome gesture. Thank you, Destin.

Keep doing cool stuff. I don't need/want stuff. I have stuff. Not billionaire space race stuff, but I get to do cool things every day. I just can't show most of it, because patents NDA's etc. What you do inspires I want you to be able to reach as many as you can. Who would have ever though a carburetor had so many secrets.

Thanks for the offer, but I'd prefer to just support your vision.
As the former Deputy Public Works Officer of Pacific Missile Range (2007-2010), I really appreciated your clips from Kaua'i! Thanks for all you do to promote science, tech, and critical thinking!

I got mine a week or so ago! Decided to order one of those nice plastic boxes, and it's now displayed proudly on our piano in the livingroom! Also, since I was buying the box, I ordered some awesome Trash Pandas SWAG and wore one of my new Trash Panda shirts to my 12 year old niece's softball game yesterday!!

2021-04-25 13:43:52 +0000 UTC
Got mine right here on my desk. Love it. It is a reminder to always be learning and, as Destin says, be a light in the world. Go Trash Pandas!

2021-04-01 22:49:12 +0000 UTC
I was really looking forward to getting a custom baseball, but to date, nothing has arrived :(
2021-04-01 06:45:49 +0000 UTC
No need to send a baseball, I signed up to support the channel. Thank you for everything you do Destin bringing science to the forefront of many young minds.
2021-03-31 23:44:52 +0000 UTC
No problem glad you could get one
2021-03-20 19:15:36 +0000 UTC

Hey Destin I subscribed to your "cat flipper" tier some time ago but since then I didn't get any emails or infos about shipping your baseball. :/
2021-03-16 09:00:33 +0000 UTC
Thank you for my Baseball Destin. I received it in the first week of February. As an American living in Australia I must admit that I'd forgotten just how well the baseball fits into the hand. It was nice to hold one again. I love what you do, thanks for increasing my knowledge. :)
2021-02-25 06:18:28 +0000 UTC
From one Engineer to another, Thanks Bro for sharing your talents and passions with us . Since you now have experienced the Silent Service first hand, you now classify as "The Hunt for Red Beard in Red October" Request for you Can you do a 30 min video on the positive benefits to mankind (and womankind) of tech transfer from NASA space exploration Apollo era to the ISS.? I feel doing this would become a world eye opener regarding why such a small investment (currently .01%) makes such an enormous positive benefit to the Human race I like the baseball idea and I can't wait to have a signed ball from you in my baseball art collection as my home office is adorned in it

Hey Destin - This may have been done, but you made a point of the difference in velocity in humid weather vs. dry weather. I would love to see how far the canon shoots the b-ball, and you can set all conditions except the humidity. If you tested on a dry day and a humid day, those would be very interesting results. They would correlate to home runs hit in moist air vs. dry air. I know they play in a dome, but the Diamondbacks home run stats vs say the Marlins would be very interesting. I know baseball keeps more peripheral stats than any other sport - it may already be out there, but what an interesting concept. Great stuff Dustin - I love it!
2021-02-22 19:39:32 +0000 UTC
Just received mine and I am stoked !
Merch idea - a display case for the baseball with something like infinity mirror effect would be really cool.

I just updated my address!
2021-02-02 15:26:27 +0000 UTC
I received it last week here in Germany. It is surprisingly heavy and hard for someone who never had a baseball in the hands. I guess everything looks much softer in the time-laps. I gave it as a birthday/Christmas present to my best friend. He isn't a patreon (yet) but a huge fan of the channel

I just received the baseball here in Ireland. Had totally forgotten about it and wondered why I should get something from the USA. It was a very pleasant surprise!
2021-01-22 13:11:16 +0000 UTC
Hi from Australia Destin, Your page is the first and only page I have ever become a patreon on. I am only on the Cat flipper teir, and I really hope I can afford more further down the track. I really really enjoy your videos, I think I am smart enough to understand enough, and you explain the things that Im not smart enough to understand so well that I actually feel a little smarter ever day🤣. Today I I arrived home from work and my wife doesn't understand why I am so excited about receiving a smarter every day baseball from the United States and from Destin himself😁. I was never expecting to receive one in Australia and it has made my day, thank you so much for this wonderful gift, it really means a lot to me. Best wishes from Australia.❤

No I doubt they're still being sent out, I never got one either
2021-01-01 18:41:55 +0000 UTC
I'm somebody else who hasn't gotten one. "We're still shipping them out, please be patient" is a perfectly fine answer ... so, is that still correct?

Hi Destin. Thank you so much for my early Christmas present! It arrived safely in sunny South Africa. And can you believe it...first time in my life that I held a baseball! Thank you for a super channel and here's my commitment that I'll continue to support your channel for a very long time.

Dear Destin. I have received your baseball, but apparently I just got an email from you with a link to aweber.com. Did you send that link, or is someone just trolling me? If you sent it, you no longer have to worry about my ball, I'm all set, you got the right address and all is well from my side. Thank you so much for making great videos!

Wow, I just received a signed baseball over here in Berlin. I didn't really dare to expect this, but now I'm overly happy! The envy from the other nerds is a bliss indeed :D
Thank you for all the exciting insights into physics and stuff! Please keep those experiments/slowmo/engineering/physics videos coming!
It feels so good, to support you directly, compared to skip sponsor parts of videos. Some of them were good though.

I'm sure you've seen Wintergatan's Marble Machine video, but I've been following his production of the Marble Machine X for a couple of years, and it's been fascinating. His redesigns over and over, learning new techniques, and willingness to try new things make me think that you would not only be interested, but maybe have something you could add to this monstrosity.
2020-11-07 02:47:44 +0000 UTC

I just watched your supersonic baseball cannon in 4K, and I gotta say that was more exciting and amazing than a Hollywood blockbuster. I'm not much of a person to give money away, but if it can build incredible things like that, it's money well spent!
2020-10-06 23:59:06 +0000 UTC
I’ve been enjoying your content for months now and I am a bit ashamed I haven’t done this sooner. Your videos are always so interesting, so well-prepared, and so clearly narrated that it’s easy for me to quickly grasp the basic principles no matter what it is you are teaching. And, “let’s be honest,” :) it’s just downright awesome to see a Mach 1.35 baseball whack a steel plate! I look forward to seeing what’s next and getting smarter every time. God bless! -Gavin

We home educate our 12 year old son, Peter & we LOVE your videos. They are a huge part of our home educating & just love your enthusiasm for science & education. Can't thank you enough. X

Destin, been watching and learning from your videos for years and because I've played hockey for many years I learned a lot from the videos you've done on that subject. Glad to support your work and look forward to cool future stuff from you!

My son just got his Smarter Every Day/Trash Pandas baseball and his response: "This is SO COOL! Thank you, Destin!"
Mother's note: He's 13 years old, just adopted last year out of foster care. Has been hard to get him interested in school. Between his KikiCo Engineering boxes and Smarter Every Day, he's learning that science is fascinating and fun - and I have you to thank for it, Destin. You're my educational gold mine with that boy.
2020-09-25 15:43:12 +0000 UTC
Thanks for the Baseball mate, just recieved it here in Germany. I'm happy to stay a supporter of your channel! :)

I just received my ball here in Ireland. Thank you so much!
2020-09-25 12:18:08 +0000 UTC
Destin: I just received your baseball. Actually, it is now the property of my 80y old mother-in-law, who was so delighted with it that she was tossing it in the air and catching it and laughing like a schoolgirl! It is the first 'real American' baseball she's seen it turns out. I grew up here in Canada and "American things" are kind of part of the background, but for her it was an amazing cultural artifact. Anyway, I thought you might enjoy knowing that your 'extra' had a lovely spin-off benefit for someone!

Destin, for me you hit the mark perfectly with your thoughts in the video. I, personally, just want you to continue to explore, provide the great content and let us join you in your journey which I find fasinating, totally entertaining and just alot of fun! Thanks for what you are doing, that is plenty for me, I'm glad to add my small amount of help and do not need any "extras". Thanks so much!
2020-09-23 16:38:51 +0000 UTC
The first time I viewed a sed video the remote controlled helicopter and the cool tricks that can be done with it. Hooked every since.
2020-09-22 17:07:19 +0000 UTC
It was really interesting, I enjoyed it. Lots of his stuff is interesting af.
2020-09-21 14:02:41 +0000 UTC
At a business meeting held at the IESE business school in Barcelona they showed us the reverse steering bike video and Iv been hooked ever since - big believer in blue sky science and I hope you get the freedom needed.
2020-09-21 07:31:59 +0000 UTC
My first SED video was Rupert's Drop. And I was hooked.
But I owe Destin beyond that.
He did a video with a plastic surgeon regarding the eclipse on 21 August 2017.
That video prompted me to take my Mom, travel to Wyoming where we both experienced our first total eclipse.
It was an adventure of adventures for both of us.
And then Destin's follow-up video about the eclipse and the ISS transiting the sun...we were only 260 miles away from each other.
Should have met for coffee.
So, I decided to support Destin.
2020-09-19 18:59:39 +0000 UTC
Here for you D!! Just signed up for $10 bucks! (MOS 68W, they renamed it too, use to be 91) These days, I am also a Scout Master on this side of the world here teaching kids about awesome science stuff, your video (along with Derek's) are basically our resources , and it has been inspiring kids to do science since 2years back at least, this support hopefully didn't come too late!!!

I teach high school Honors Biology to freshmen, as one of my many science courses I teach! On Fridays, I share one of your videos with them - Science Video Fridays with Smarter Everyday! THEY LOVE IT!!!! My classes are all in person, as 'normal' and the kids argue over which video we will watch! I had to limit it to just Fridays, as we were watching them EVERYDAY!! If you are ever in Indiana, we would love to have you pop in! Thank you for helping me to inspire our future scientist!!!
2020-09-18 20:30:18 +0000 UTC
whether or not I get the ball doesn't matter, I'm just happy to finally have the financial needs to support you even if not by much!
You're awesome Destin! Thanks for the content you create for us!!

About three years ago I watched your video about mining Opal. That same year I proposed to my wife with a Opal stone and she immediately melted on me and we have been married ever since. Our baby boy is going to be born in November and if there is anything I can do to make sure he grows up watching your videos then heck yeah we are going to support. Keep it up!
2020-09-16 17:43:20 +0000 UTC
Any chance I can get my baseball fired thru the cannon before it is sent to me ;) p.s. I vote for building a Trebuchet next, I built a large one to throw pumpkins in college and it was a fun project.

This was a no brainer. I don't want anything from you for helping you out with my pledge. I enjoy watching your videos and they bring a smile and at times laugher which is all I need. The bonus is that your work, I believe, does do good for the world just by increasing curiosity and wonder to those who watch. Keep up the good work.
2020-09-15 15:24:36 +0000 UTC
Great video Destin! And did I notice you got a tattoo on your right wrist? :P

2020-09-15 10:53:58 +0000 UTC
I have questions. How fast can the ball go before is disintegrates on impact? How far can the ball go? Could you make a bat that withstand the ball at it's maximum non destructive speed? Assuming you could hit the ball how far could you make it go? Also, what would the supersonic ball do to everyday object. (Car, knife, ballistic gel. Phone book)

I am a 3D designer/animator with background in mechanical engineering, When I saw the design process of the Air Canon I was intrigued and had to join and help you do your STUFF. Looking forward to future videos.
2020-09-13 00:03:11 +0000 UTC
I could have sworn I was already a supporter, but your baseball video made me go back and look and I wasn't signed up so now I am!
2020-09-12 23:26:57 +0000 UTC
That last video you did with the baseballs was amazing. The part where you were asking for pledges meant so much to me so how could i resist. Carry on
2020-09-12 22:53:01 +0000 UTC
Your videos basically inspire me every single day as a designer, to think almost always 'literally out of the box'.
2020-09-12 08:33:53 +0000 UTC
Gave you as much as I could afford right now :) hope to see more videos where you can do what you want to do! :D

As a hopefully upcoming biologist, thank you for your awesomely entertaining content, which makes me dislike physics less and less with every video! Greetings from Germany! :)

Hey, I always wanted to know what is that shining remote control kind of thing hanging in your room by the map.
2020-09-11 07:33:52 +0000 UTC
Hey destin! I’ve been watching your channel for a couple years now and I tried becoming a patron a couple days ago but I don’t think it went through so I am trying again, i would love a baseball signed by you! Anyway keep up the awesome work!

As a fellow mechanical engineer and geek I love your work! I wish I could join you on your endeavor to make every day Smarter!

Watching your videos for the past couple of years has really opened my eyes to the sense of wonder in the world through a lens I regret not seeing in my younger years. I can only describe the baseball video as one of the most exhilarating achievements of seeing brains work together and bring thoughts into reality as I cheered(out loud..... too loud haha) at what you have accomplished. Immediately came to pledge and can't wait to see more. Thank you Destin.
2020-09-10 16:14:47 +0000 UTC
My family adores your positive attitude, your approach to science, and the work that goes into every video you make. I also ordered a Trash Pandas shirt to recognize their support, too. 2020 has been rough but we can help each other and, hopefully, make it just a little bit better for each other.

2020-09-10 13:08:02 +0000 UTC
Just a quick note of thanks for doing what you're doing with the positive energy and outlook you bring to it! I watched your "baseball canon" video and immediately pledged my support. I hope you reach your goal to keep making cool videos that celebrate science and learning, and balance that with your commitment to be present for your family!
2020-09-10 11:30:10 +0000 UTC
My thoughts exactly.
2020-09-10 11:06:50 +0000 UTC
Hey Destin, I just got done watching your recent video where the baseball disintegrates! Wow that thing is amazing, and that sound!! I am new to patreon and I'm honored to help support what you do! I can't explain it, but that thing made me warm and fuzzy inside. Especially that last clip you talking about what you do. I had to become a patron. I have recently started a channel myself, I can't even begin to imagine what it takes to run a channel like yours. I can't wait to see your next video. Keep up the awesome work, you are truly helping the world!
2020-09-10 04:49:57 +0000 UTC
Like a signed baseball from you with the logo would be awesome but what you said in your video about your goal to have the freedom to make the world a better place and to help people go beyond what they think they're capable of (can't remember exact words) really got to me and i had to support you. Good luck and i can't wait for future videos!

Hey Destin - thank you so much for what you do. It's my pleasure to help out and the least I can do. I grew up in Huntsville - spent 9.5 years of my first 14 years there - and my wife and I spent an additional 18 months there just out of college. We lived on Monte Sano - loved the Space and Rocket Center - worked for the Department of Defense and WHNT! Please keep up the good work and continue producing your ultra-professional, ultra-thoughtful, ultra-scientific and inspirational videos. Always fans - privileged to be supporters. -John.

Hey! I simply love SED! One question, I am from Brazil, how do I provide my CPF number for shipping?
2020-09-09 20:49:04 +0000 UTC
I watched your baseball video with amazement. Color me impressed. I watch all of Rober’s videos and am extremely happy to have discovered SmarterEveryDay. And I am proud to say I signed up with Patreon. Great Job!
2020-09-09 20:37:47 +0000 UTC
Just watched the Baseball Cannon video and became Patrons. We hope to run into you on our road trip October 15th-17th. Keep the science coming!!

As an old computer engineer I get to enjoy living vicariously through you and all of your practical engineering pursuits that never crossed my path through the profession. Thanks for doing what you do, brother. Psalm 19:1 (P.S.: Reepicheep is my hero too!)

Awesome =] keep up the wonderful work my friend!

You are the first person I have supported on patreon as well! I am a tech and engineering teacher at a middle school in Virginia and I LOVE getting the kids excited with a bell ringer (aka watching your video) and asking them what if we.... they love it.
2020-09-09 16:31:14 +0000 UTC
You are the first person I have supported on patreon. Not only have I enjoyed HOURS of smart-thought provoking and sometimes hilarious content but I also love your vision for SED. Keep up the great work Destin and I can't wait to build a case for my baseball <3
2020-09-09 16:22:14 +0000 UTC
Maybe if he angles his baseball cannon just the right way in the sky he can deliver that baseball directly to your doorstep
2020-09-09 13:16:00 +0000 UTC
When I found out you are only about a 2 hour car drive away from me I had to support my local YouTube guy ( with a super sonic base ball cannon ).
2020-09-09 12:39:57 +0000 UTC
This was a great pitch (ba dum tiss) happy to support a great channel!

I grew a beard last year, and surprised myself at age 54. My dad has had one since he was about your age. Says “it covers up a multitude of chins!” Never shave it off, Destin!
2020-09-09 03:22:47 +0000 UTC
The supersonic baseball and you reiterating your mission won my support. Ive enjoyed your videos for years and really appreciate the content and how you try to be a good person.

Keep the baseball, you've provided me, my sisters, my sister's class, and now my kids with hours of educating entertainment. Thank you for everything you do.
2020-09-09 01:00:04 +0000 UTC
Destin and crew, you are only the second creator that I am supporting through Patreon. There will probably be more over time, but you had me at supersonic baseball. When I saw that bow shock in front of the baseball, I knew I had to support your work. I'm working on an upcoming sonic boom test in the 8'x6' wind tunnel at NASA Glenn, so I have been thinking a lot about supersonic flow. Thanks for the awesome video!

I'm watching your videos since balloon in the van. Turns out we're almost the same age (I just have smaller kids:)) l love what you do and the passion you put in it. Also how many great opportunities & videos you've had. So I thought why not try patreon for first time :) Greetings to you & your family. God Bless You! (Numbers 6:24-26) //Michal

Love your work, keep it up !,!
2020-09-08 06:59:02 +0000 UTC
Hi Destin, I have been watching your videos for a couple years. Let me tell you why. #1 - The content is awesome. You tell a story, a story worth watching. #2 - You DON'T waste the time of your viewers/subscribers. You get to the point without pontificating, and I like that you respect your subs. #3 - It is obvious you genuinely love to stretch your brain, it can be as simple as wondering how a weed wacker cuts grass to what it's like aboard a nuclear submarine (and oh man did you take me back in time). Keep up the good work, I am looking forward to supporting your creations even if it's only a little bit. Cheers - Rick

I would agree with some of the others that you are the first channel I have ever signed up to support. I a few miles south of you in Pell City, and my relatives in Huntsville (also rocket engineers) absolutely love you. As an engineer myself, I appreciate what you do. If you need anything from the Birmingham area, let me know. Romans 5:8

Hi Dustin and family, Like Nelson Nissley I watch many different YT channels. You are the FIRST person I have signed up to support. For some time (Since the cat and chicken videos) I've been watching your channel, and love how you've evolved and grown both as a family man and Youtuber. You're certainly an inspiration. I've been tempted by many, but you sent me over the edge with the supersonic baseball to sign up as a Patreoner! Keep up the great work; I hope and pray your dreams are coming true!
2020-09-08 02:55:44 +0000 UTC
My family and I have been watching you since the balloon in the minivan. My oldest son LOVES your videos and is so excited when I tell him there is a new Smarter Everyday video out! His excitement and earnest desire to learn is the main driving force for supporting you. I want more children (and adults) to be this excited to learn and enjoy science and your videos and passion are a great way to get started. God has definitely given you a gift to reach people and it is great to see you growing and using that!
2020-09-08 01:54:11 +0000 UTC
I've been watching for a few years and I'm glad to support you with what I can when you create. You create some of the highest quality videos on all of YouTube and entertainment in general. Thank you!
2020-09-08 01:35:26 +0000 UTC
Hey Destin! I have been watching you since the .50 cal bullet proof glass vid. Im a high schooler who loves Jesus and was inspired by you to become an aerospace engineer.
2020-09-08 00:50:38 +0000 UTC
You're doing so much to help my son get excited about science. And thanks to you, I'm getting it through his head how important math is. Come to think of it, I'm excited about science again too. Thanks so much for all you do.

Long time viewer, first time Patreoner. Glad I could help. This channel is a big hit for my daughters who I'm trying to feed their appetite for all things STEM.
2020-09-08 00:21:50 +0000 UTC
I've been watching your channel for a long time now with my son who love science. He really enjoys not only the things you create but the knowledge that you pass on. Thank you for giving me something that my kids and I can bond around and talk about.
2020-09-08 00:18:54 +0000 UTC
Long-time watcher, first time supporter. I would often think that if I became independently wealthy I would blow up Patreon and support you, How Ridiculous, and a few other makers and tinkerers. Why was I waiting? Knowledge and excitement for learning is priceless. I especially LOVE that you cite scripture at the end of the videos. I'm, a chemistry and physics teacher, and I speak against the idea that science must be agnostic of faith. When we investigate the natural world, we learn more about the language God used to speak the universe into existence. Thanks again, Destin. (If you happen to be wondering by southern Nevada, let's meet up. I would love it if you could talk with my students some day after we can return to face-to-face things.)
2020-09-07 23:16:28 +0000 UTC
I've never supported another channel on Patreon, but I just genuinely appreciate the content you create and want to help out (the promise of a free trash pandas baseball didn't hurt though).
2020-09-07 22:53:38 +0000 UTC
My wife and I loved your baseball video so much we upped our Patreon support, lol. It'll be especially worth it if it means we can see more crazy engineering in action.
2020-09-07 22:40:53 +0000 UTC
I watch many different YT channels. You are the FIRST person I have signed up to support. I've been tempted by many, but you sent me over the edge with the supersonic baseball. This video reminds me of the "what if" article about the light speed baseball (https://what-if.xkcd.com/1/).

I've been such a huge fan of yours for so freaking long. I can't wait to see what you do next!
2020-09-07 22:18:31 +0000 UTC
loved the super sonic baseball video!
2020-09-07 22:12:07 +0000 UTC
Mach 1.3 baseball.... BASEBALL....that is incredible! What was going on with the closing of the shockwave behind the ball? Was this the first spherical object to go supersonic? (do cannonballs/old school round shot go that fast??). Awesome!
2020-09-07 21:27:04 +0000 UTC
Hey I cant wait to see you're next video:-)
2020-09-07 20:39:19 +0000 UTC
Just signed up after watching the supersonic baseball episode. You are the first person I’ve ever supported on Patreon, and I think you’re worthy of it! I would love to see you take the baseball cannon another step and get the vacuum and pressure maxed out. I really want to know how fast you can get that baseball to fly!
2020-09-07 20:37:05 +0000 UTC
I can’t wait to get my trash panda baseball!
2020-09-07 20:02:06 +0000 UTC
I was supporting you below the first tier. When I saw the Baseball Cannon video and the baseballs you're sending out to patrons, I thought it would be cool to have one. But when I noticed Patreon wouldn't let me share my address with you, I figured that must be by design.
Then I see in this post that you would've sent me one anyway and you've set up a Google form for it, that’s just so generous. Your pitch was great (excuse the baseball pun) and I really want to see what other cool projects you can create. So I’ve upgraded to Cat Flipper. Happy to support your curiosity, positivity, and generosity. You’re a class act, Destin. Greetings from Ireland.
2020-09-07 19:52:56 +0000 UTC
I discovered and fell in love with your channel over quarantine, and ended up watching every video since then! It's most certainly what kept me sane. I've never been a patron before, and I'm just teenager but I'm really glad to help out. Your channel has done so much for me in growing my interest in science, and I figured I should give back!
2020-09-07 19:51:56 +0000 UTC
Agreed. Same here. I'd like to see how high the cannon can shoot it.
2020-09-07 19:48:12 +0000 UTC
Same here man 😂
2020-09-07 19:31:11 +0000 UTC
First time I’ve become a patron I don’t know how this works 😂
2020-09-07 19:29:43 +0000 UTC
The baseball cannon pushed it over the top and I pulled the trigger and became a patron. I hope it re-appears and you try shooting things other than baseballs. That thing needs it's own channel it's so epic. "Giant air Cannon Channel?" (ex. hydraulic press channel). Looking forward to whatever you do next.
2020-09-07 18:52:05 +0000 UTC
I'm so happy to be in a position to support your channel now. I love what you so

Between you, Mark Rober, Steve Mould, and Ben Krasnow, I truly am getting smarter every day. I have only one question: Do the baseballs we receive come... shall we say... "flat packed" to save on shipping? I guess, if your aim is good enough, there's probably another way you could also save on shipping.... 😉😁 Thank you Destin for your passion.

I love your videos! I’m 17 and I don’t have a lot of money but I’m trying my best to help out!
2020-09-07 17:07:21 +0000 UTC
Hey destin I’ve been watching you for years and I just want to say I really love your content, and when I heard I could possibly get a signed baseball from you I had to give it a try. Anyways have a good day!
2020-09-07 17:06:39 +0000 UTC
Your pitch at the end for Patreon convinced me to sign up and support you. I'm an aerospace engineer living in San Diego and my sons and I absolutely love your videos. I'm a private pilot and we go on a bunch of family flying adventures with some Go Pros riding along, so, you've inspired me to start to incorporate some science and engineering into, what have historically just been family videos. Keep up the good work!
2020-09-07 15:40:09 +0000 UTC
They were losing a lot of vacuum at only 500 psi, they couldn't have made it higher without re-doing a good chunk of it.
2020-09-07 15:29:39 +0000 UTC
Absolutely loved the cannon video. Not gonna lie there was only one thing that I was supremely disappointed at. You never did fire the cannon at full capacity. Even a -14 / 750 psi would have sufficed.
Anyhow, I signed up for the baseball and am hoping to get a signed one. You do such an awesome job with all your videos. And I love how excited you get over such silly yet amazing projects like this one.

Baseball canon was the clincher for me. Didn’t even know Patreon existed until I watched the baseball
2020-09-07 13:25:48 +0000 UTC
I was considering becoming a Smarter Every Day patron, but never really got around to it.
Then you build a cannon that can shoot a baseball over a THOUSAND mph and I'm just... "Take my money and put it to good use!"
2020-09-07 12:28:22 +0000 UTC
Destin, I have been watching your videos for years, and I wholeheartedly think you are one of the best YouTubers and educators out there. The Supersonic Baseball Cannon is incredible, and I can't wait to see more of your amazing content.
2020-09-07 11:26:06 +0000 UTC
Thank you, Destin - one of the best YouTube channels out there. Worth every penny. In fact, worth it for the supersonic baseball cannon alone!
2020-09-07 10:15:17 +0000 UTC

Thank you for sharing this.
2020-09-07 05:25:09 +0000 UTC

2020-09-07 05:24:49 +0000 UTC
I’ve never signed up for a patreon because it seemed sketchy who I gave my money too. I love your content and without a doubt I trust you will make amazing stuff. I cannot wait to see more stuff and also get one of those baseballs :)

Can we pay extra to get fragments of a plastered baseball instead of a regular baseball? I would still treasure a baseball with SED (and Trash Pandas) printed on it, but if I had even a few incomplete pieces of a baseball that went out in "stupid-fast" supersonic epic glory, I'd frame it.
2020-09-07 04:19:17 +0000 UTC
Really great content in your videos. Educational and enjoyable, and great inspiration for new generations. Keep up the good science!

I didn't even have a Patreon account. Never gave it a second thought. I've watched your videos a long time, Destin. I don't even like baseball. But honestly, I want to see you do what you do. And I have always appreciated the Bible verse at the end. A small, powerful witness in my eyes. Thank you, and keep being awesome. Well-earned subscription.

I had set up a patreon account many years ago but never used it, but now I have a reason to use it and I'm glad to help support your content.
So that's cool, also quite enjoy a lot of your content and having had been to Huntsville earlier this year and hoping to move it's kinda cool to see stuff around the city. I always liked seeing the mock-up display of the Saturn V rocket when myself and my significant other were going past the US Space and Rocket Center on I-565

Just signed up today. I once watched a documentary that talked about why agrarian societies thrived more so than hunter gather ones. Long story short was that agrarian societies had the benefit of being able to stockpile resources and trade said resources. Thus no one person had to spend all day doing all the things necessary for survival. Leaving more time for creation, science and progress. After watching that I completely understood why supporting the arts and supporting what we want to see more of in the world is important. So I'm happy to help in some small way with making what you do easier for you to do. Especially since I will not in my lifetime ever forget what laminar flow is because of you. :D

I've been watching SED on YT for only a few months. I love your honesty and passion and just being a real dude doing important, but fun, stuff for curious people like me... and explaining it so people like me "get it." I appreciate that you can somehow do this without destroying your family and career (though I can't imagine it's easy). I'm not exactly in the position to be philanthropic, but after watching the SS baseball episode, I knew I had to be a supporter. And it just so happens that I collect baseballs of particular significance, so you got me. It would be cool if I could tell my friends it was one shot from your canon at 1000+ mph. 😜

Hi Destin, I had lots of fun watching your last video of the supersonic baseball canon. And it seems you had fun too on this adventure. I put my shipping address on my profile. As I'm living oversea, they might be some extra shipping costs. In this case, please let me know. Ok, the Supersonic Baseball is one of the coolest things you have done. I’m a STEM teacher in a middle school. It would be wonderful if you could find time to create a video that details the engineering process using the baseball canon or other project in which you faced design iterations that lead to a successful project. I know that STEM teachers around the nation would highly appreciate your very friendly approach to explaining complex projects.
2020-09-06 16:26:27 +0000 UTC
Just checked mine and noticed that because we were below the newest lowest tier, it had dropped off. I don’t now if that means that you weren’t getting anything at all, or if it was just continuing to draw at that amount without being a tier. Anyways, I’ve fixed it now, but not sure if it might impact others.

One of the things you mentioned that also really meant a lot to me to make a contribution to you was a similarity to Grant Thompson. Spending time with your family. I means a great deal to me seeing a creator I like (even when something’s are just crazy out of my minds league) gets to have a balanced life of a passion and real time with your family and kids. Seeing your kids try the Kiwi Co boxes doing engineering and creating must be awesome to see!

My wife and I love baseball! We are bummed out that we can't go watch any games this year. I will give this to her as a gift. We love watching your videos.
God Bless!

If you can input your info in this form we can still send you one of the baseballs when they go out. https://forms.gle/W9yqioGqvDrQ4zU38 Unfortunately if you are at a custom giving level Patreon gives no way to enter the email.

That's awesome you're doing this! Although I don't have an option to add an address. I'm supporting at a custom level.. is there a workaround for this?

Thanks for your incredible videos the world is getting better. Good luck with the beard, it took me more than a month to get a descent one.

I give money to creators to create, not sending stuff; and I don't think you should worry about physical perks !
But surprise stuff in the mail is always nice :)
(I think you have to enable something because I can't provide any address for SED, but I can for other creators)

It's been a LONG time since I became a patron. You've number of videos has gone down, but hte quality and depth has gone WAY up! So seems I need to update my tier to match that shift.

Love what you do for the world and happy to support you. Keep rocking the facial hair, it suits you!

I completely agree agree with your comment about this not being transactional, just wanting to support and not caring about rewards (in fact, I had no idea what the rewards at my level were). So I decided to increase my support a little today!

I just followed the apparent happy trail like others and upgraded a little my subscription. 3€+vat per video up to twice a month vs 10€+vat once a month is just a little extra effort, but I count on lots of little efforts adding up!

Thanks for such a clear video while also taking the time to go above and beyond in dealing with the tax issues. I just increased my tier level considerably compared to my old tier. The passion and genuine joy for science you bring to every video makes every one of them a joy to watch.

Likewise, while I will be thankful for your gift, if an additional minute of your time could be devoted to either making more great content, or sending stuff like this to me, I would definitely vote for your making more great content.

FYI, the Patreon link in the post is broken. Looks like the close bracket and period are part of the link which is causing it not to resolve.

The Patreon link in the update captured the end ")" which makes the link invalid. Not hard to work around just wanted to make sure somebody caught it.

Thanks for the update! Looking forward to the baseball :-). I have been a huge fan of your content for several years now. I don't use patreon with the expectation of anything. I support you on patreon because I believe my children need a good role model within their areas of interest. Also, because I am fortunate to be able to support your endeavors which tickle my brain. Please keep up the great content as I know you will!
2020-07-08 15:42:46 +0000 UTC
Great explanation! It never made sense to me for people to be promising physical rewards. The whole point of Patreon to me is to support the work creators are *already* doing, not making more work for them. Sounds like that finally caught up with everyone tax-wise, so I'm glad you're able to work around it!
2020-07-08 15:42:39 +0000 UTC
12 seconds in, I was already going to make an approving comment about the facial hair. I'm 30, and mine looks basically the same—just getting to the point where it kind of looks legitimate. Isaiah 50.6

If we didnt care about what you post, we wouldn't be patrons! You're the only person I subscribed to on patreon because I believe in what you're doing. I wish I could gift more, but I cam barely afford this as it is! Some sacrifices are worth making though. Keep it up!
