I'll be in a boat when this video goes live at 8:30am Central.

I'm taking my oldest kids on a deep sea fishing boat for the first time tomorrow.  I scheduled this video to go live at 8:30 central time.  I hope you enjoy it!  I travelled to London for a meeting and made this video with Steve Mould while I was there!  I'm super grateful for your support on Patreon.  I allowed me to stay an extra day and film this!

Here's another take home message: go and play a modern Asteroids-like shooter. You'll see the effect quite well if it's physics-based.

That's the secret I tell all of our engineering interns: The most valuable problem an engineer or scientist can solve is “How can my design / theory be wrong?” You won’t believe how, merely thinking about that question, can prevent a lot of problems before they happen.

This was so cool!

Interesting, thought-provoking, counter-intuitive. I'm still trying to work my way through as a thought experiment.

This was a fun video with two humans I like. I’m glad you had an argument over it. :)

Took me a while to understand what it does when I had a few of the other channels I subscribe to play with it. Consensus seemed to be: no more than 30 mins advanced warning. It'll be enough for people to manage their schedule and not too much to have loads of people click on the link and find a 3hrs countdown. There are still a few channels in my portfolio still doing it and I am fine with it because after the countdown is over, it turns basically into a normal notification. Sometimes I even hit the premiere when it is still live, which is kind of a nice feeling, knowing that the creator is somewhere on the other side of the world watching it the same way as I do right now. (Most seem to do and interact with the chat.)

Two things: 1. I thought this was about the pool to show the Coriolis effect. My immediate thinking was "whoa! they went to the Equator and did the pool thing again" when I saw what I thought was the valve external to the pool. 2. Physics video turns psychology. Awesome! re1: Duuuude! Find a science human who lives on the equator and make them do the pool-thing in a tripple-youtube-video-playing feature :D Know anyone sciencing in e.g. Brazil or Congo? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equator#Equatorial_countries_and_territories

When I saw this in my subscriber feed I couldn't watch it because of some stupid premier thing blocking it... I almost missed the video because of that. I'm glad I saw my patreon mail though.

Thank you Destin. We all need to listen and understand more these days. I'm personally going to work on this.

Excellent. Destin, your comments about how you interact with yourself and others when communicating ideas totally rang my gong. I have ended up with egg on my face because I thought that being right is more important than being properly right. Thanks dude.

what happens to the snapshot when the magnitude of the rotational vector exceeds the magnitude of the water pressure vector? does it change significantly?

Great video, though I would have liked a clearer explanation on why the curve “flips” visually when the spouts are turned inward. Also, looks like people didn’t like the premier feature. Maybe reconsider how you use it for the next video, even though I think the vast majority of people were just being petty.

Have fun fishin’!

Nice aha moment r.e. disagreeing and actively stopping listening. Don't you feel like you should have realized this years ago? And yet most people NEVER have that aha...

it certainly creates unnecessary noise in my Inbox! I get the Youtube Mails already anyway. I've unsubscribed to the Vlogbrothers because of this. it just annoys me!

Are the YouTube premieres even worth it?
