Patreon Video - Episode 18 - Rough Animation in Real Time

Here comes quite a long video for you. As animation is incredibly time consuming I thought that maybe the best way to see another artists process is to actually watch it in real time.

The part I am showing in this video is what I would consider the hardest part of 2D animating. Getting the driving keyframes down.  It takes a lot of concentration and focus. I apologise if  it was not filled with a lot of knowledge sharing. But I thought that just seeing me work and trying to keep a commentary going of what I am thinking might be interesting to some of you.

Further down the line it would be interested to maybe explore live streaming. Then we could have you guys take part in the conversation and that might give the longer format videos a bit more interest. Answering questions etc. I think once we are a few more here on Patreon that could be something to explore.

Let me know here what you think of this format. I have done a few videos like this now which have been a bit longer and not edited (modelling, tracking, uv mapping etc).

A lot of you said you wanted to see more After Effects videos too. If you have anything specific in mind, please let me know as I am always open for suggestions.

Hey Merrick, Second one to mention this here :). I did look at it after Anthony (above) wrote about it. I am not 100% sure I would need those functions but for some workflows it might be useful. I really quite like how simple it is to already go between AE and PS by just importing the PS project as footage and be able to update it in AE. I rarely want all my PS layers imported to AE. But as I dont know enough about this plugin I might miss some features that are ground-breaking :)

Just wondering if you've seen BattleAxe's new plugin TimeLord? Pretty nifty at going between PS and AE!

Cheers Greg! Glad to hear that!

Love the long format! Super interesting to see your process!

Thanks Anthony! Yeah Twitch might be an option. I am not very well researched on how Twitch works but would be interesting to stream. Something I will have to look into. I just gave the Time lord a google. I am sure it is useful for certain pipelines. I am not sure I am in need of that type of workflow but anything that can speed up the way we work is always good :).

Def going to check this out later tonight. I would be all for more long unedited videos like this. It's a good look into the process. Twitch streams could be a nice place for these too. Count me in. Also, what are your thoughts on the new Time Lord plugin from Battle Axe? Looks like it may add some ease to PS animating.
