Updatin'

I move into my house next Friday! That same day I'll have a pretty great coach/boy story for ya called "Practice After Practice." I'm happy to say that I've been feeling inspired lately and have been working on multiple stories, and even a couple commissions. It feels great! I'm always happiest when I'm writing steadily.

I guess things have evened out for me a bit since my last update. I'm staying in a fabulous loft right in the middle of the city, my final crash pad until I officially become a homo-ner. I am excited...sort of. Mostly anxious. It's a big switch for me, moving to the suburbs and signing my life away to a bank. But I know it's a good move. I have friends who live right around the block from me, and it's not so far from the city. Plus I'll be able to paint the walls crazy colors and basically do whatever the fuck I want.

What else? Having a lot of sex (that's been the main source of my inspiration, to be honest), watching "Euphoria," smoking weed, reading John Rechy's "Numbers." I discovered an album by J Dilla called "Donuts" that has blown my mind. Not really going out so much, but the difference between this and last winter/quarantine is that I have no compunction about one-on-one or small-scale hangouts, sexual or otherwise. I'm grateful to be able to spend time with friends and not have to worry about, you know, DYING. Or potentially killing them. Minor things!

You know we're all traumatized, right? After being forced to ignore the very healthy instinct of socializing for the better part of two years? People are spinning out, struggling with addiction and mental illness. I'm helping others when I can and trying to be gentle with myself when I don't have the capacity. But it's a lot.

Anyway, I hope you are also being good to yourselves. I encourage you to get out of the house and be around people. Take the risk! It's honestly not a huge risk if you're vaccinated/boosted, and if you feel like you need it, you probably do.

xo,

Natty

If you're into podcasts here's one with my favorite writer Sarah Schulman on the history of ACT UP and on current social justice movements. It gave me some hope: https://www.npr.org/2021/06/16/1007361916/act-up-a-history-of-aids-hiv-activism

Anyone with empathy and not in total denial really isn't "okay" right now. How could we be? I'm glad you're taking care of yourself. Build a "friend pod" of folks who are comfortable with the same level of covid precautions you take for yourself. We're currently doing a "9 gays in a vacation house" getaway, and I cannot recommend this highly enough as a break from the isolation.
