LGR, eat your heart out.
My local Menards has a Goodwill next to it, and I tend to stop in whenever I need to buy hardware-y type stuff. I made the trip to Menards to get adhesive for attaching sound absorbing tiles to my walls.
Anyway, I spied a bulky case with Sony on the side. "That looks like a camcorder. That could be a Betamovie. Oh god, it is. There goes ten dollars."
No idea yet if it works, haven't even tried it, but it's in near perfect shape cosmetically. Spent its whole life in a protective leather thing which took some wrestling to free it from.
EDIT: It does work! Can't say how well, but it threaded a tape, recorded onto it, didn't eat the tape (important), and the recording is legible! I don't want to waste too much time tinkering with it, but wow! It will bring some fun.
Incidentally, this is a BMC-110, the first portable camcorder ever made. So there's some history to it as well.
Expect a video some time in the future. I doesn't really jive with current plans but I could NOT pass this up.
