Inside the Cars was a Peace Envoy, Led by Matthias Ertzberger, a Member of the Catholic Centre Party, as the German Government felt he, a Civilian, would be more Acceptable to the Allies than a Prussian Officer. The Germans were Escorted to a Train, which took them into the Forests at Compiegne, where, waiting for them, was the Personal Train of the Allied Supreme Commander, Marshal Ferdinand Foch. Foch was in no Mood for Compromise ~ just that Day he had lost his Son in Battle . The First Words out of his Mouth were, "What do you want from me?" Ertzberger Replied, "We are here to Negotiate an Armistice," and Foch then Announced, "There will be no Negotiation. You are here to Receive Terms from me."
