I learned was a djinn (the d is silent I believe) from this hold horror movie called Wishmaster. The villain was this evil Djinn or genie, as we kind of added fun lighthearted twist to something dark, would great wishes to people but the wishes would always be twisted in some way, but the person that awakened the djinn had to make 3 wishes in order for the djinn race to take over the world. It was really ugly and scary too. I'll send you a picture in the DM.

Djinns were thought to be evil begins with powers equivalent to angels before God created the universe, but that's getting like into theological mythology. "Majin" together in Japanese just means a "demon person", so I guess different languages are etymologically related if you go back in the history of modern and ancient languages far enough.
