Process + tips - funky car

This week, I wanted to share this funky car I drew, along with some quick tips I gathered along the way 🚘

First big takeaway is perspective. Cars, robots, and machinery rely on strong perspective to make sense visually.

Looking at the pic above, u can see the perspective box I drew over the car.
I kept a rough visual of that in mind as I made the sketch (left), and most details followed it loosely. Using it as a guide kept things mostly believable.

The key for achieving this more wonky/playful style is not getting hung-up on "perfecting" the perspective as I draw- Not every line has to converge at the exact vanishing point on the horizon or whatever... This isn't a technical drawing, so allow yourself to have fun!

Also, the pics above shows how pretty much every 3D form of the car can be broken down, and described in different ways.

I used cubes (left) and contour lines (right) to demonstrate how the forms ,no matter how they are described, still follow that perspective box I drew before.

In summary, basically, everything can be simplified into boxes. Boxes can then be rotated and posed into perspective with practice. Then, boxes can be cut-up and divided as needed. That's basically how I drew this lol.

This logic applies to anything- characters, animals, props, etc...
So I challenge u to try applying some of these for yourself next time you sit down to draw!!

-Part 2 of the Stylized Portrait tutorial is in the works- I'm having a ton of fun putting it together so far and I'm really excited to drop it. In the meantime, be sure to check out Part 1 if u haven't already. I'm also gonna combine them into an ebook/PDF format so you guys can easily download it to your own devices if you'd like to.

Thanks for looking 🏄‍♂️
