art dump #5 πŸ–

Quick update regarding my tutorial videos: some of you may have noticed, I've been slightly behind on my tutorial vid uploads. Life has been quite crazy lately and I haven't really had the time to write, record, and edit any educational videos..they take quite a bit of time produce!

My aim is to return to more video content next month when i'm in a better spot. I really miss making tutorials, live drawing seshes, and TikToks. Learning to edit video and audio has been a challenge but an incredibly rewarding one. thank you so much for hanging in there with me guys πŸ™

Anyways, art dump:

Here's the Regular Show fanart I started last week-ish. I wanted to whip up a quick painting of Mordecai and Rigby in my style, but trying to keep their designs accurate to the show.

In this case, it means finding a balance of how much render and lighting I paint them with- a balance of form, and more flat graphic shapes. This is actually my 2nd render pass. The first one was way too detailed and looked more like bad 3D cgi lol.

I like how this one's looking- Sort of flat/graphic, but also shadows and subtle indications of 3D form where it matters. It just needs some final details and polish!

I finally got around to starting some Jet Set Radio fanart πŸ˜‚ I think i've been putting it off for so long because dynamic poses in perspective are still hard for me.

I think it could use another line-pass to iron out some details, but I'm pretty excited abt this one. It has a lot going on (perspecive dist, anatomy, clothing/folds, backgrounds) so it may be one of my biggger personal projects as of recent!! crazzzyy

Painty stuff. I tried making the canvas only 200px wide to create that cool oldschool-computer aliased look, but I forgot to use the pencil tool only and my regular brush smoothened everything out hahaha. Colors were fun tho!

More procreate sketches by request of my IG Story polls!

I think I'm starting to get better at quickly conceptualizing the prompts into rough sketches. What's been massively helpful for me is taking a sec to think about the construction of basic forms, and lightly blocking that in before getting into the actual fun part of the sketch lol.

Still trying to keep each one under 10 mins, but i went over a couple times ngl!

Mindless meditation thing (?)

In spirit of PleinApril, I chose to not go outside and do a an actual plein air, but stay inside and draw with HEAVYPAINT on my computer in a relatively dark room.

It's been a while since I did a study using heavypaint. The minimal UI and almost "analog" feeling of drawing on it is really refreshing. Once I was warmed up (took me a couple minutes to reassimilate with the controls, feel, etc.), it was almost meditative to just focus solely on blocking in shapes and colors in a more observational way.

(this process gif is really bad I dont know how it got like that)
