Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras were the pinnacle of development of the previous generation of capturing devices, and they can still hold their ground before the last generation Mirrorless.
The 3 photos of Klara today have been shot on my Nikon D810, after this model Nikon released an even better one, the D850, but the D810 was (and still remains) a capable tool.
36 MP are still impressive for current standards and, with a flash off camera, this gear can still teach a thing or two to whatever the current market is offering.
Add to that the optical viewfinder, or the long lasting battery, or the proven longevity of all components, and you understand why some pro photographer have no intention to abandon their old DSLR.
It is not just feeling nostalgic, it is being sensible.
I still use this set up during Winter Months to overcome the lack of natural light, like during this shooting with Klara in February 2025.
Every time I pick up my Nikon D810 it is like shaking hands with an old and dependable friend, because I know it is unlikely it will ever let me down.
2 more photos of Klara today on my regular social media feed and on DA Subscriptions.
