Calling Life Art
Added 2024-10-01 14:00:04 +0000 UTCToday I want to tell you about one of my most inspirational influences as well as a new project I'm embarking on!
That person is Linda Mary Montano - you can check out her life and work online because she's an incredible figure in performance art, and I also consider her to be a friend and mentor of mine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_Montano
So Linda really pioneered the idea of making art out of your own life and considering your life to be art. She wrote a really wonderful book called "You Too Are A Performance Artist" in which she pairs many performances that she did along with information about what was going on in her life at the time, and a prompt that you, the reader, could create a performance from. I've decided to work through this book and try out every performance prompt, some in combination with others and some edited as needed. In staying true with this idea of declaring parts of your life art, I am (humorously) declaring this as my personal, and obviously unofficial, master's program in life. Especially because the very first piece I'm working on has gotten me to sign up for Waldorf Teacher Training for the next two years (among other commitments to be of service to the world!) and there will be a whole lot of self-discipline, commitment, and learning involved in this whole journey.
I've created a loose schedule of performances for this upcoming academic year, a performance art friend to collaborate and stay accountable with, and I look forward to sharing some of this journey with you as well here on Patreon!
