This is my most recent body of work, and the shapes and colors have exploded into butterfly wings.
In the first three posts leading up to this one, you can see that the figure is the focus. Now, the focus is more external and more abstract.
In some ways, I think my focus has become more outside of myself in life too - I've always been focused on my interests and expression, but now that I'm a mom - I feel like my heart, in some ways, lives outside of my body.
I also think I've experienced more freedom, especially from things that used to hold me down. This journey can be seen in the paintings as well.
The shapes of the butterfly wings create the landscape, the veins of the wings become trees. I'm still working with the same themes and environments, and in some ways the colors and shapes of the paintings are very similar, and yet the main subject matter has changed.
