I take losses for sure, but I’ve seen many unexpected gains.
When I was hitting shoulders and upper back, I added much to my pull weight. Unexpected gains were massive increase in comfort with a pack on, which gave big increases to miles possible per day. Also saw significant increase in my squat and deadlift- this is what got me to be able to comfortably pull 500lb- even though I lost bulk in my legs.
When lifting, I will lift roughly 3x weekly. Same short sessions and lifts every time.
That’s all the time I had for repeatable sessions and it gave just enough time to heal.
I find that when I lift more areas and do more workouts per week, my recovery time lowers and I can’t manage as much on any one area.

Haven't heard that advice before. 2 questions
Do you have concerns about losing the muscle you just gained when you switch to a new focus?
How many days a week were you focusing on these two exercises? If you had days of rest in between would it not make sense to fill those rest Days with an exercise for another muscle group? Or were you literally working out the same muscles everyday without rest Days?
