Here are several guidelines to help you submit a complication we can use on the show.
A complication is an unfortunate result when a player on the show critically fails a roll. For example:
“Tannhauser is attempting to lockpick a door; his player rolls a natural 1 on his thievery check; uh oh! That means he has complicated. The complication selected from your submissions and decided upon is from user XxXSephirothNinjaKiller420XxX.
‘Major Malfunction!’
An item or device a player is interacting with malfunctions spectacularly and EXPLODES!
Due to this complication, the Game Master and Player work together to create a comedic scene. The lock may explode due to an eclectic safety system. Or perhaps the player’s lockpick was electric and broke on him.”
This is, in essence, what a complication is. And we want you to submit your ideas!
Complications that apply to everyone. NOT just a single character.
Complications that can create fun or funny RP scenes.
Complications that help enhance the game, not derail it.
Complications that help us tell a story or enhance a current one.
No specific mechanics in your complication. This mainly means that not everyone knows the ends and outs of the systems we play. So sometimes we’d get complications that gameplay wise doesn’t work, or we’d have to ignore it as it’s too detrimental. An acceptable complication with a suggestion of a mechanic looks like this:
“Stuck Weapon”
Either through combat, or due to an unlucky situation, your weapon is stuck! Make an appropriate check to free it.”
We simply want to avoid submissions that give our players doomed 4 in Pathfinder 2E campaigns. That would just kill a player.
Do NOT make the complication character-specific. We understand viewers have their favorite character, but the more character specific it is, the fewer options and more work our other players have looking for a complication to use.
No Memes; we get that one moment in the show was funny, or that one meme circling the internet is as well, but we want to avoid dating the show too much and overusing jokes that can turn from super funny to annoying real fast.
Do NOT have your complication involve hero points or reroll systems in any way.
Don’t include characters in the complication. Such as characters from other IPs, shows, etc. Or to bring in characters that shouldn’t be in the scene.
Do NOT include a complication that will derail an entire session. This includes stuff like having Leman Russ appear as a living character for the PCs to interact with or introducing an entire side plot as part of your complication.
Ran out of ammo!
Uh oh! Either through your clumsiness or your current circumstance, your weapon has no more ammo loaded!
Stuck Weapon
Either through combat or due to an unlucky situation, your weapon is stuck! Make an appropriate check to free it.
Clown PTSD
Something about the situation has caused you to remember the atrocities of the Clown Wars. Instilling either fear, hysteria, or mistaking your allies to be the clowns you fear!
Spell Malfunction
Something about the magic being cast has gone wrong! Either the opposite effect of the spell occurs, or an AOE spell scatters in a random direction.
I didn't mean to hit that!
Something has made your action go awry! You hit something else than the intended target. Either an exhaust pipe that'll expel steam or a bucket that makes a loud clang alerting the guards. Roll a D8; the number rolled hits the square surrounding the intended target.
As clinical as these examples are, we still encourage you to be silly with your submissions!
Keep this in mind!
Submissions are selected by the players prior to each session. Submitted complications are not used in order of receipt and there's no guarantee that they will be used in the campaign. We're empowering the players to select a batch of complications they think works best for their style of humor and characters, so please keep that in mind when submitting.

I’m not sure if I can get my complication broad enough! I don’t want to submit something bad.
We understand that not everyone will get it right every time. We still encourage you to try your best and send in your submission. If it doesn’t work, we’ll just not use it!
My idea really relies on a mechanic, like strength checks or reflex saves, can I still submit the complication?
You can, but be aware that the less broad your complication is, the more likely it won’t be used.
I’ve already submitted my complication the last time it was available, can I re-submit it?
Yes! As long as it’s adjusted with our new guidelines.
How many complications can I submit?
As many as you wish, within reason. If we find you’re submitting 20 of them a month, we’ll ask you to stop.
When will my complication be used?
The way this is setup, is that your submission is put into a “pool” that we draw from randomly. We cannot guarantee that your specific complication will be used during the show.
Can I have the spreadsheet of the complications?
Due to how we have the spreadsheet setup, and for show purposes, it won’t be publicly available.
