Black Dawn Lore Compendium: Voldemort's 1st War

Tom Riddle, AKA Lord Voldemort waged one of the most devastating civil wars against Britain that the world had ever seen. A war which had every witch and wizard trembling at his mere name. A war that he waged under the false umbrella of pureblood propaganda, taking advantage of the rising political tensions in Britain.

For 11 years, the war was fought in open, and a reign of terror clouded Magical Britain. That was until, he met his fated end at the hands of the Potter family on Halloween 1981.

This timeline is only a rough representation of the atrocities that were committed, and what the world went through and when.

Between 1970 and 1981, hundreds of witches and wizards and countless muggles were murdered, slaughtered, and burned by Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

The effects of the war were wide-ranging and beyond the tally of the stones in a graveyard. It was a war that forced people to marry young. Arthur and Molly, Lily and James, Frank and Alice... they are all but few examples of those who did.

Yet, it was not the end. Dozens of children were left orphaned. Harry Potter, Susan Bones, Neville Longbottom. They are the names we know. There are more we don't.

It was an effect that could be felt for years to come, even in Voldemort's absence. So, here we have it. The bloodiest civil war in the history of Britain, presented on paper.

Author's note:

This timeline is Black Dawn compliant and largely canon compliant. A big change is the timing of the prophecy. It was after Harry was born than before than before. I mean, come think of it, why would it take over 15 months for Peter to betray Lily and James if Voldemort knew of the prophecy since before Harry's birth.

15 months is hell of a long time to be in hiding and an even longer time for Voldemort to let a threat as big as this persist. It made much more sense to me if they had been only in hiding for a few months before Voldemort found them and killed them.

I intend to keep much of the war same. A huge event that changed would be instead of Minister Harold Minchum's resignation, he was assassinated in Black Dawn, leading to a severe escalation and widespread fear in 1980. That was when Lily and James made their will (that's why it is warranting a special mention).

It was way before the prophecy was issued, which, as you can see is June of 1981, only three months before Lily and James were killed and the war ended.
