Also Suna trash talking my boy, Tsukki??? I don't think so! I'm sure he's got something cooking...RIGHT???

Athena

Kita crying after receiving his first uniform AND HE'S CAPTAIN?? Oh am I a sucker for emotion...The first time I watched this episode I cried when I saw his tears and I barely knew the guy๐Ÿ˜‚

Athena

I see, well Iโ€™m glad it turned out okay for you. Stay safe!

Chris Sharpe

Glad you're safe and it was a non-event for you. :) Seems like it mostly passed over here without too much, but there were a bunch of tornados not too far away.

Ryan

Yeah, the hurricane blasted through my area in the morning apparently. I say apparently because I slept through it.

Chris Sharpe

I'm late to the party because of the hurricane, but just a few little things to point out since most comments have (rightfully) focused on Kita. ;) The scene leading up to Hinata's silent stare at 14:03 is a surprisingly important plot point. I like those moments in Haikyuu where the first time you watch it, it seems like just a random moment of filler, like in Season 2 with all the silent looks between Daichi and the Johzenji captain. 20:13 Random little crossover detail, but the word that snake dude uses to describe Karasuno (that they translated as "dive in headfirst") is 'chototsu-moushin,' which is Inosuke's catch phrase from Demon Slayer. 24:00 Suna's speech stands out in this episode because he's the only one on Inarizaki who doesn't speak and think in thick Kansai-ben. Especially after Kita's intro and the Inarizaki coach's explanation, you start to expect everyone on their team to speak in that dialect, but then Suna's monologue at the end is the same speech style as everyone on Karasuno, so I looked it up. Apparently, Suna's someone who moved to Inarizaki from Nagoya, so he's the one outsider. I really like that the author included such a random but realistic detail.

Ryan

Thanks for the birthday celebrations!! Iโ€™ve ended being pretty drunk right now โ€ฆ my chill night before the bigger celebration on the weekend kinda spiraled so Iโ€™ll have to save these two episodes after some much needed hydration, sleep etc. I wouldnโ€™t wanna disappoint Kita and not take care of myself! ๐Ÿ˜„ @Hannan woooo you love to see it! happy birthday to you too!!

Sacha

Happy Birthday!

Chris Sharpe

๐Ÿ˜…

Alex G

Yeah if I didn't know any better about your shenanigans with women, I'd think you were Kita ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฝ

Aanvik

Happy birthday to you both ๐Ÿ˜Š

Alex G

There is an incredible amount of sincerity to Kita's character that cannot really exist in most other types of shonen. Doing everyday deeds well constantly cannot be the character trait of an interesting character in stories where characters are trying to save the world. In those types of shows you need characters who can have very high highs and very low lows. However a sports anime has the space and time for characters who believe in process. I think that's why Haikyuu means so much to me. I can want to be like Deku but it's harder to find parallels to my life. It's easier to think of being like Kita or hinata

Aanvik

That's so funny. I wondered if this might be the case! Since I've made so many videos it's hard for me to know who's watched what and what kind of continuity there is between videos, but watching this episode I was like, surely someone has thought of this exact episode during reactions to other shows. Especially the process vs results thing because that's exactly how I've always heard it and phrased it

Alex G

NO WAY itโ€™s my birthday too hahaha. happy bday to us ๐Ÿซถ

Hannan

One of the main reasons why I was so excited to see you cover Haikyuu was because of Kita. From your other reactions, it always seemed like a lot of the principles you aspire to were the same as Kita's. I always thought of you and what you spoke about when I thought of Kita. Knowing what I know now, I think it's even better that it's not actually you but someone close to you who you aspire to be like.

Aanvik

Only tangentially related but I recently watched the documentary The Deepest Breath, and something about it... it's some of the craziest footage I've ever seen despite being relatively simple in basic concept

Alex G

Also, you sure your friend didnโ€™t mention, say, being the writer of a certain popular volleyball manga.

Chris Sharpe

*Dies of Peak Fiction* Kita is probably the character that speaks to me and relates to me the most in the series, other than a certain โ€œimmovableโ€ player later on. Heโ€™s easily in my top 5, maybe top 3 characters at this point in the series. Not only do I relate to many aspects of him, I also am inspired to try to be like him. Between his words and what youโ€™ve said, Iโ€™m trying to learn to feel gratified by the process now that Iโ€™m in college. Iโ€™m even thinking of trying recreational volleyball. Itโ€™s funny how manga inspires you. First there is Haikyuu making me interested in volleyball and sports in general, then there is the manga Grand Blue making me want to start scuba diving again.

Chris Sharpe

Man, Kita is such an amazing character and so wise beyond his years. I also have a friend that's pretty similar to Kita being very built by his daily routine, tactical, and never shows any nerves when doing anything. It's amazing how people could do that cause I'm much more of an Atsumu being obsessed with results and being very emotionally driven. He'll continue to surprise you with his wise words.

Skyler Anderson

Yayyy! Been missing my Haikyuu. I'll probably make another comment after watching

Skyler Anderson

I really liked this episode as well, I think that Kita is a character that I am really amazed by, also somewhat inspired by or aspire to be like. But yeah I enjoyed the reaction and can't wait for more. excited but sad to see this show ending soon and also Vinland. But I am also excited for HunterXHunter and what you think/how you react to that story :))

Emman Reed
