Hidden Details: Cloud's Strife

Welcome to the eightieth episode of the Hidden Details blog!

Have you found some obscure reference or detail in this comic? A JoJo reference? A sneaky little Loss? A callback to a previous comic? Let us know what you've found in the comments! Every detail that has been found will be added to the list below. Once everything has been found, this comic will officially be marked with "all details found".

Please only comment with ONE hidden detail or reference!

There ONE Loss, ONE Balthazar, and NO JoJo reference. A light one this week! Bonus panels don't count.

1: There's a little Balthazar drawing on the cups the group is playing Liar's Dice with. Glad you noticed him, Marwan Abunura!
2:
And yes, there's a loss on the scoresheet, Luke. I tried so hard to come up with an excuse to draw a horizontal line to make it loss, but I couldn't come up with a creative solution in the end, so I just drew it very lazily.
3:
Yes, Alex Nelson, they are indeed playing Liar's Dice. Because Cuphead likes to roll the dice, as mentioned in his own game. But, Tejayes, I'll give you a point here as well, because your "cup" theory is amazing and very funny.
4:
The Zelda cake's sphere-thingy is modeled after the thing that falls from Aerith's hands when she's stabbed by Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII. I've never played the game so I have no idea what it's supposed to be, but I guess it's a Materia? Nevertheless, glad you noticed, Aust Sakura Kyzor.
5: Trigger
and Azalea are both right: Cloud, Sephiroth and the Zelda cake make the same poses as Sephiroth, Cloud and Aerith in the original scene, respectively.
6:
No one mentioned Sephiroth's dig at Nintendo not REALLY celebrating Zelda's 35th anniversary (except for rereleasing an upscaled version of Skyward Sword for full price, I guess), but Cameron Devera did mention the 35h anniversary cake so I'll count it.
7:
Some other meta commentary: Cloud references how ridiculous Sephiroth's behaviour is by comparing it to a cartoon. Little does he know he is, in fact, part of a comic strip.
8:
Chef Squirtle makes another appearance as Sephiroth's baking buddy, continuing the little arc from last comic. Found by Conner Kavanaugh.
9:
Man, I actually forgot they referenced Aerith by nearly getting Zelda stabbed in the reveal trailer, John Hattan! I'll count this one, even though it was unintentional.

After one week, I'll reveal all the details that haven't been found. These ones are written in italic.

Hidden Details: Cloud's Strife

Comments

Again, please comment ONE detail, otherwise the first person can just list them all off

Wooden Plank Studios

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's liar's dice. Nice reference, guys!

Alex Nelson

Idk if this counts, but Pyra looks confused on how to play Yahtzee.

CSDX

Cloud stabbed the Zelda cake like Sephiroth stabbed Aerith in FFVII, and Sephiroth is holding the destroyed Zelda like Cloud held Aerith after she was stabbed. Also, Sephiroth and Squirtle continue to be good friends and baking buddies.

Conner K

Loss is on the score paper in front of Pyra, the cups have Balthazar on them, and Cuphead is playing a game with cups.

Conner K

Balthazar is on the cups in the first panel.

the scoresheet foreshadows palutena's appearance in the bonus panel, she's the fourth player

Erin

I keep wondering that as well hahaha

Wooden Plank Studios

How do y’all reply so fast? Anyway, pretty sure this isn’t a hidden detail, but poor Squirtle is about to turn on the waterworks in the last panel.

Phloxiana

Cloud's playing a game that uses cups with Cuphead, a Mii Gunner skin with a cup for a head, and Pyra, a character known for her sizable... well, you know.

Tejayes

It's not cuphead, the scoresheet correctly calls him gunner.

DustPride

Balthazar on the cups of the first panel

kirbystarwarrior

Zelda’s 35th Anniversary cake!

Cameron Devera

Cake Zelda getting killed is a reference to her being Aerith's spirit and in Sephiroth's trailer

John Hattan

Cloud looks like he’s taking Sephiroth’s pose after he kills Aerith

Azalea

Sephiroth holding cake Zelda on the floor resembles the FF7 scene when Cloud holds Aerith.

Trigger

Loss on the scoresheet in the first panel

Luke
