Art by S. Patrick Brown

P.S. She who will not go away: Clearly pressing for some kind of endorsement deal, our old friend Karen from staircase has taken to the screen again--this time in a creepy adaptation by Sagen Film, based in Sweden. It’s on YouTube here:

Does your scorecard include the other three video versions of the story?

Neighborhood Watch

The Thing From the Hallway

A Noise That Carries

Also on the adaptation front, writer and anthologist Giancarlo Vanzzini has written a novel based on the characters and concepts in outcast, but taking the story to a different place… check that out here.

We miss you, Gordo :( Funny story though: my parents actually got caught creeping by Gordon Lightfoot, when they accidentally crept into his backyard looking for their friend’s coach house in swankyville Toronto :D

Your (rather envious) Karen would approve this message. Not 😉

BREAKING: Sundown Arrested for Creeping Around Local Man’s Back Stair

Soren Narnia

Gotta say, I will never listen to "Sundown" the same way again 😳 https://youtu.be/1IBdZ645S-o?feature=shared

That’s a fun approach. You get to enjoy and guess at what might come your way.

S. Patrick Brown just likes the podcast and loves to do his thing! I intentionally tell him as little as possible about an upcoming story to see how it and the art will wind up merging.

Soren Narnia

That art is really beautiful. Is this a commission arrangement you have with the artist? The art is very fitting to your stories. The actress playing Karen in that new short is great too. Very unsettling!

Mike M.

Hmmm, I’m not seeing a way to watch it at the moment either!

Soren Narnia

Is it online for pay? I searched and couldn't find it. Do you know of any way to watch it for pay? I could always sign up for a free trial, watch it, and then cancel. Except that never seems to work, the cancel part. There's always something else I want to watch and then another and then I'm hooked.

If I may say, whichever KPH you care to tackle, we’ll be delighted ;) all the best with future projects!

Lori K.

Haha that’d be something! I have a special spot for ”moonkeeper” which I’d like to direct (”only” wrote and produced ”Staircase”!) - ”eyes” and ”guest” are up there too. We’ll see what the future holds, gotta finish all the other projects first! Thank you for watching! :)

Ahhhh... Your infamous villain Karen finally gets her due 🙏 YASS + YOU = BOO

What a lovely surprise. I just watched "Thing from the Staircase." It captured the soren narnia vibe for sure. I look forward to the rest. That's so cool.

Now if I were a talented Swedish filmmaker I might follow up this success with a run at another Soren tale. Maybe …Eyes? Tormented house frau/demon Shirley Frost will have her day, dammit.

Lori K.

Loved it! Profoundly creepy, captured beautifully the growing menace of Soren’s story. For me, Karen was spot on. Thank you for the great adaptation and…uh…see you at home (creak)

Looks like A Noise That Carries still isn’t online for free, shucks…

Soren Narnia

The Swedish one! :)

Albin Glasell

Which one was yours? Hope I didn't say anything bad about it! They were all good, just different.

Jill E Merrill

Thanks for the film links. Do you have one for the full film "A Noise that Carries"? The trailer looked different from your story but intriguing. Funny what the films chose to emphasize and leave out. Those clawed hands are iconic. I liked the way the Swedish film followed your story so closely, but it just didn't capture the scariness of the original. I did like the choice of pet names. "Neighborhood Watch" was good. I got excited at the film vérité of the jacket left behind, but the end ruined it for me. Why ruin such a great story? The cinematography in "The Thing from the Hallway" was excellent. The lighting and the staircase... That Karen was certainly the scariest. But it strayed a bit from your story and ended too soon. I think the perfect film adaptation can only be done by one director. Soren Narnia. Your train videos were great. You've proven yourself capable. And don't forget the dancing ketchup and mustard. Seriously. Please make a video of "The Staircase." You've got half the cast; all you need is a Karen and a good videographer. Someone who knows how to aim the phone and won't accidentally film in slow motion. Please???

Jill E Merrill

Your actress really nailed the creepy/terrifying vibe, especially with that last stare. Well done!

Sara Fleming

I’ve been looking for something to watch. Thanks for this! I’ll have to watch after I put the baby to sleep

Daniel Greene

What a gorgeous illustration for "Rory." Well done, S. Patrick Brown! Can't wait for this one after the holidays!

Jeanette DeMain

Thank you so much for sharing our film! Hope ya’ll like it :) Lock your doors, turn down the lights and use your headphones ;)

Albin Glasell

I've yet to see a Staircase adaptation but I'm interested to see how it translates to the screen. My guess is probably very well! It's so scary in its simplicity and how it taps into relatable fears. Gotta take a look into this Swedish version tonight, when the lights are out and the sun hides below the hills.
