Hi Bella, thank you! I believe you’re talking about blending here. I usually take my time and blend paints very lightly, just with the tip of the brush, trying to make transitions softer. Even though nowadays I try to leave more visible strokes of paint in my portraits (I think it adds character) I still like to blend in the same manner, very delicately :)
