I am now almost at the 20 hour mark in Ys IX, and have more opinions on it. The switch from having a bunch of small segmented areas from previous Ys games to much larger areas has been nice. While I don't find Balduq as interesting a locale as the Isle of Seiren was, it is much easier and enjoyable to move around it with the combination of the monstrum gifts. Being able to run up almost any ledge and then go gliding around is fun. It'll be nice to see them expand on this in future games. There aren't as many bangers in the music department compared to previous games. Nevertheless, the bangers that are in there bang like there's no tomorrow. Despite being an old flamboyant gay stereotype, Chante's pretty cool. Yufa a cute. I somehow missed a side quest for the female doctor who joins the group, which really annoys me. Not sure how I missed it, as I was trying to be careful to make sure I do every sidequest. Worse yet, it sounded like I missed some fun character moments with her. The game is incredibly easy. I've only used healing items a handful of times. Not that I'm complaining, because honestly I like playing it casually and not worrying too much about difficulty right now. Besides, like in previous Ys games I wind up finding a particular attack and spam the every loving hell out of it. Different this time being I don't get hurt nearly as often, and wind up becoming OP in combat. Luckily, there's 3 additional difficulty modes above normal, so there's plenty of challenge for those who want it. Krysha still a cute. Credo blows and has yet to pull a Hummel. Doll is a fun character. Despite her lack of emotion, she makes for some amusing comedic moments. Without spoiling, I had a boss fight with a particular nemesis from a previous Ys game, which made me go "AW SHIT! HERE WE GO AGAIN!" I'm really curious as to what that's going to lead to in the story.
