EP26 Part 2 Update - State of EP26 and new Editors

AY

Another 10 days have gone by so it's time for another update.
Imagine me, --Alfabus--, actually posting something in accordance to a schedule, huh? WEIRD.
In addition to EP26, I'd also like to talk about Editor Secundus & Editor Teritum, but I'll do that afterwards.

EP26 Update:
As you might remember, last time I posted I talked about having edited the heaviest scene ever, and that it was all child's play from there. Turns out I somewhat underestimated what came next, as the editing was still pretty heavy, just nowhere near as heavy.

Only counting visuals, I managed to finish 3 and a half minutes worth of video in these ten days. Not close to as much as the first update, but ALMOST twice as much as the last update.

Alas, I know I can do better, and I do have some excuses as to why I didn't! Oh boy!!

So that's 4 days out of the 10 where work was very limited.

These next 10 days, however, will be fairly eventless. My partner is going on a trip to warmland by plane and, while I'll be incredibly lonely, I'll also be incredibly lonely--which means I can work all the time without anyone telling me to stop!
Time to fucking die, mental and physical well-being--it's the god damn Editpocalypse again!!

If I don't get more than 4 minutes done these next ten days, feel free to scream at me.

Editor Secundus & Teritum:
Okay, I have to talk about something that has been bothering me.
Something I never expected to happen is that I would reach the goal for not only Editor Secundus, but also Teritum, in a fairly short span of time.
It's a m a z i n g, but, also, slightly problematic at this juncture.

I have gotten in contact with several potential editors over this time, and a few of them have even made attempts at helping out in the editing process--but, unfortunately, it just hasn't worked out in any of the cases.
TTS is a very time-consuming and very demanding project, I have come to realise. Of course, I have always got the time to work on it thanks to you, but for someone else to join in on the creation of TTS, that someone has to be a very special kind of person.

I will be editing EP26 on my own. But, after EP26, I am planning on making a public announcement looking for two new editors that can potentially help create EP27 and other videos in the future.

What kind of person will I be looking for?

Yes, I realise, finding a person like this, let alone two, will be next to impossible. It is a very steep set of requirements. But, if I did find people who fit these criteria--the future of this project would be set in stone.
Proper fucking bedrock, even.

Getting a hold of someone who has the knowledge, the time, the energy and the personality will, naturally, be expensive--something I am expecting and embracing. I feel it'll be one of the best investments I can make, because they'll be more than worth the money.
Even if it'll create a dent in my own economy, being able to create more content will surely even it out. And, even if it doesn't, it really doesn't matter, because it really isn't about the money, it's about creating MY LIFWORK. I cannot spare this expense.

You're the first ones to hear about this (as should be the case), and you are absolutely allowed to spread the word if you so desire.
But, I'll be making an announcement about this after I am done with EP26.
Wish me luck.

Until next time, have a good one!!

I just hope that who ever you find brings kitten and magnus back

And just because I apparently *can't* leave it alone, here is a commercial option. https://turborender.com/en/ Again, I renew my suggestion that we push for a new goal to get to wherever you'd need to be to support this. Or get a render box.

You're welcome. Glad to hear you've got a line on an editor. Perhaps I'll research prices of used render boxes next. Can you give me an idea of what you're looking for?

Thank you for your time, dude! Incidentally, I've actually gotten in contact with someone who might just be able to help out when it comes to editing. Very exciting stuff.

Alfabusa

Well, no reply from those guys and I noticed that the last update to their website was in April. Hopefully we'll get some kind of response. In the meantime we should pursue other methods of distributing the workload.

It's a relatively new tech so maybe now it not the time but it's surely food for thought.

GUYFUN

So far there is no response to my attempt to contact from crowdrender people. But all the resources are available on their website. My main concern is that I think their software only supports the Blender software, rather than the nicer, more expensive software that Alfa is using. Still, if Blender *could* be sufficient to his needs, then we could get him some VAST RENDERING POWER.

Pretty obvious that he would approve. The last time he had eardrums it was, what, 5000 years ago? I bet he does not even remember how having anything in your ear canals feels like. And besides, he is enduring constant agony to keep the Astronomican lit, so you'd better be fucking thankful and express your inconditionate love for the Emperor by publicly flagellating yourself via molten gold in your ear canals

MistRatsu

Thank you. Research is my thing. And also frequently my job (my un-official, self-assigned job title is that I am "the Figureitout"). It sounds much less official than "Compliance Officer", but it is also much more accurate.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

GUYFUN

Even if it doesn't go anywhere congrats on the research!

GUYFUN

And this looks even more promising: https://www.crowd-render.com I have emailed these guys a description of your project along with a link to the Patreon page. At a minimum they're worth having a conversation with.

Here's another project that *is* currently active which is using a similar idea. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Sheep

I'm still doing the exploratory research on this one but check this out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_and_Ugly_Rendering_Project I haven't yet determined if BURP is an ongoing project, the website looks very old indeed, but I cant imagine we're the first people to ever consider this. I'll keep digging.

Woha, that looks quite hefty. Any clue how it would work on a project such as this? It says this is for stuff like healthcare, global warming, gravitational waves and pretty heavy stuff like that.

Alfabusa

https://boinc.berkeley.edu This looks promising.

People really like Karl.

medhathobo

That sounds painful. Although the Emperor would no doubt approve.

I can do some research. Since many, many universities use this technology for scientific purposes I think there must be some free public software we could employ. Then it would just be a matter of getting people signed up and figuring out how to use all that processing power.

That's a strange comment to click the heart on.

He was, but only for a time. His internet turned to trash and school got him kind of chained down, and thus he hasn't been able to help a whole lot.

Alfabusa

This charitable action and those sentiments are absolute gold injected into my eardrums.

Alfabusa

Wait, how would that work? Gnoblar models are the new, hot cryptocurrency, did you know?

Alfabusa

Then let's do it. I've always felt that my gaming laptop isn't earning it's keep while I'm asleep or at work.

Oh I thought Karl was helping with editing.

medhathobo

There are ways to submit ones processing power in the same way Utorrent works and bit coin miners operate. This is funny to me at the prospect of TTS coin farming.

GUYFUN

Good luck Alfabus!

GUYFUN

You will find them Alfa. and if you impossibly didnt find any, well... There's always the EXTERMINATUS bottom that needs a headbang..

Profe MacKnight

Alfa i will add you 1 WHOLE US DOLLAR for every person you hire! The only thing more important than next TTS episode is its author so, keep healthy or i will send you a very unpleasant letter if you get sick and delay the episode!

Hori

Though I can't help since I have no experience in video editing, I do love what you're doing here. It's always a good day when a new episode gets released.

Julbot1

Just let us know how we can help. I imagine many of us have, at a minimum, gaming machines. Probably we could handle some kind of distributed grunt work.
