New Patreon Feature! Should I activate it or nah?
Added 2016-05-12 07:01:06 +0000 UTCAy bruvs! I just wanted some advice.
Apparently, Patreon has made this new feature called 'Pay Upfront' available.
What this basically means is that the day someone pledges, the money is thrown at me immediately instead of taking it by the end of the month.
The benefits they claim this has is, and I quote:
"Creators get their money faster. Because patrons will be charged upfront, Patreon will be able to transfer that money to a Creator’s balance sooner.
Patrons will not be able to sample Patron-only content.
Some Patrons have been able to pledge to a monthly creator to check out the content without paying, similar to a free trial. These patrons sometimes delete their pledge if they do not find the content valuable. Some creators find this useful while others find this to be a nuisance and unfair to patrons that are paying."
However, just to be clear, this should NOT affect all of you who've already pledged!
It is just for future patrons.
You can read more about it here if you feel like it:

So, you guys think I should use it or skip it?
Thanks in advance, Emperor bless!

Hey, if everyone involved gets a bit of coin then I'm okay with it because you guys put A LOT of time into those projects and as someone who doesn't have kids or any emperor based stuff going on it's easy to see how it's hard to deal with this situation but I say give it a go and see how it goes :)

2016-05-13 02:52:12 +0000 UTCHonestly I would not care either way. If I decide to support someone via Patreon, I already like their stuff enough to throw virtual money at the creators face. So (for me at least) there is no meanigfull difference, so do what you want. The only thing that would be a possible difference (this is speculation, because I do not know enought about how patreon works to be sure) would be if someone supports you on patreon. You release patreon only stuff and right after that he would cancel the support (bevor he had paid anything). In this scenario, this "supporter" would have access to patreon only stuff, without paying anything. But that is a highly hypothetical scenario.

2016-05-12 21:40:32 +0000 UTCYou're not missing out due to the fact that you hardly provide precontent for us (which I seriously don't mind). However, it may scare away new patreons? Otherwise I see no disadvantage for you.

2016-05-12 20:58:12 +0000 UTCThat sounds kind of bullshit. So they pay the moment they subscribe, and at the end of the month? I can't really think of a reason for you to use it since you don't post any early access things here. Skip it.

2016-05-12 17:19:49 +0000 UTCWhen I started pledging to you, that's what I thought was going to happen. I didn't want you to wait a month for money. D:

2016-05-12 16:42:52 +0000 UTCI would have paid upfront if I could DO IT!

2016-05-12 15:00:35 +0000 UTCNah indeed, it's mostly a case of me sooometimes uploading some preview stuff or whatever, which I am planning on doing more in the future albeit it is always a pretty hard thing to do! Also, thanks for the input bruv!

2016-05-12 14:49:07 +0000 UTCI would have paid upfront. In fact, I'm surprised that Patreon doesn't use some kind of upfront payment already. There are artists who have had people pledge, download all of their files/art, and then delete their pledge before they were charged. So it's a bit of a complaint there. But those are (often, I think) also cases where a significant amount of content is Patreon Exclusive content, so I'm not sure if that problem applies to you. I can't recall seeing any patreon exclusive stuff among your works, so that's not as much of a reason for you, I think.

2016-05-12 14:28:07 +0000 UTCT'is very true! Then again, I suppose that if people wanted to throw money at me anyway, they'd want to do it immediately and not have plans to do it later, or something. Those people I potentially lose would perhaps be those that do it just to check if its "worth" it for them to donate!

2016-05-12 14:27:54 +0000 UTCIf some are willing and have the money to donate more upfront I say go ahead!

2016-05-12 14:05:48 +0000 UTCSure got ahead bro, I mean if they want to pledge then why not?

2016-05-12 13:15:35 +0000 UTCWell if people are pledging then it goes to reason they want you to have that money. So why wouldn't they want to give it to you right when they pledge? Id do it.

2016-05-12 12:59:37 +0000 UTCI would have paid upfront I believe setting that option will yield fine results you have all of your YouTube available for them and it's free

2016-05-12 11:43:36 +0000 UTCI think you should, it sounds l a great benefit to you and would help you out more, and I think that's what we all want, we don't need anyone stressed out. I think if people like your videos they will kind of already understand what your Patreon is like, so for me it's a yes and a go ahead! Papa Bless.

2016-05-12 11:20:39 +0000 UTCWell I am no Patreon specialist nor do I invest time and effort into producing something like you do, but as a consumer of your product, which I am, I have to say two things: 1) The public videos you had were already good enough to convince me to endorse you, hence your free stuff is already of high quality (or your audience has low expectations :P) and 2) based on what I said on 1, I would pay upfront to begin with. What I am trying to say is that if your public videos continue to be of the same quality, and on the side you make some special content for your Patreons, then I would go with 'Pay Upfront'. Having said that I would switch to 'Pay Upfront' when I though I had enough Patreons already to support me in building my current videos at the quality level I want. Cheers

2016-05-12 10:30:34 +0000 UTCBenefit: You get your money 1 month earlier Risk: Fewer people donate.

2016-05-12 07:48:37 +0000 UTCI don't mind Alfa, it's your money. You just get to decide the payday.

2016-05-12 07:23:19 +0000 UTCWell seeing as I can't respond to you Alfa I suppose that you don't need to use it as your reputation is good enough that most people would rather pay at the end of the month or whenever we get charged rather than up front. But thats just me.

2016-05-12 07:19:25 +0000 UTCOooh, that's the thing though - Patreon gives a warning that I cannot at this time turn it off if I activate it!
Alfabusa
2016-05-12 07:08:42 +0000 UTCI mean it sounds like a good idea and if it doesn't turn out well then you can just change it back.
