I miss Comic Book Jones a lot. I would usually do store appearances there for Free Comic Book Day as well as their anniversary event. And sometimes for new releases. I drew a few store stickers for the shop and would table with them at the local New Dorp H.S. mini-con.The staff was like family and the customers friends. The inner circle members were given a Jones Family Clan name by owner Socko Jones, as part of the extended "Jones Family Clan" , I was Biff Jones, Sarah was Bam Jones and the kid was Pow Jones. It was an oasis and a great place to hang out. As much as I love and respect the guys at JHU Comics on Staten Island/Manhattan (formerly Jim Hanley's Universe, where Socko and I both worked, clerked and managed at different times as did Nick and Ron who own JHU now) my heart was with Socko and the gang. Our kid grew up there and read hundreds of comics during our visits and signings. Very fond memories.
It was s shame when we lost the store, for the community and the business, for Socko and the loyal customers and staff. Good times, good people.
