Hello folks!
So first of all, there has been a significant delay on the Map Making project from our original planning, where the goal was to update you monthly from the moment we posted the first release. This has to do with some work conflicts for the engineer I was working with and we have been hard at work at looking for some solutions.
Didn’t want to keep that in the air before we had any and today I’m happy to report we will be getting back on track in full force.
Funding
The original issue boiled down to the developer who was working on it part-time, couldn’t make that time anymore. Now, in order to fix that issue, we were looking into hiring someone to join us in coming at this project full time instead. Funding is required for such a step, and although I had thought of looking at something like Kickstarter, I’ve decided to fund the project myself instead (with all risks involved) because I need to put this project into high gear. It’s been on my to-do list for far too long.
As things stand currently, that should mean we will not only get back on track with development but also kick things up a notch and develop it faster than planned. Catching up on the time that was lost between now and the first phase release, and getting to the finish line faster.
Roadmap
Another very important part of this project is the roadmap we laid out for it. I know many of you are very eager to hear more about this and as soon as things are set in motion, I plan on sharing a full roadmap on a phase to phase basis. Each phase focused on building a specific tool that is featured in the editor. Aimed at making it possible for people to try it out with each new release.
One Time Purchase
As for all people who support the $20 tier at any point of the development stage, I will make sure to send you the final tool, as it will be a one-time purchase type deal. Any support (whether it’s one time or longer) will go to funding the project. I might look into additional perks later for supporters on this tier, but we’ll get there when we get there!
The only thing that won't be supported is obviously any updates in asset content, so I can keep working on developing that end of the project in the foreseeable future. The goal of this tool is to implement other types of mapmaking in it as well and I’ve got lots of ideas I can keep exploring with it once it’s fully realized.
Commercial License
Purchasing the tool will also be accompanied by a commercial license for anyone who uses it. I had been looking in more complex forms of licensing, but I honestly feel that it becomes so convoluted, I just want to keep things simple. All I ask is that you mention in writing that the maps you send out in the world are made using my tool and art. I’ll go more into exact detail of what this means, there might be some exclusions like using the art for building a videogame etc.
