Such a good flim. We don't see the viewpoint from our so called "enemies" much and in the end, its shows that most all of those lives lost and those who are traumatized for good, are just every day humans. Pawns on a chessboard of those who can't get along for the better.
Midway is another favorite of mine <3

Good underrated war film. Now you guys gotta see "Fury." It's time! One of the best war movies you'll ever see. Starring, Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Bernthal, and Michael Pena (who was 1 of the 2 main cops in the movie, End of Watch)

And it was supposed to be the war to end all wars.... little did people know what was coming a few decades later.

In all fairness to them, they didn’t know what the movie was about, so they couldn’t have done any research. As for the dubbed English, that's my fault, I should have recommended the subtitles. But as someone already mentioned, the English dub isn't that bad. It was a great reaction nonetheless 😊

great pick, but what a shame to watch it with the dubbed English. And guys - confusing WW1 and WW2? Thinking Hitler was the Kaiser? That is shocking. Maybe do a little bit of reading before watching a movie like this.

You should definitely watch some classic Jackie Chan at some point. Police Story, Wheels on Meals, Project A, Armour of God, etc...

I watched the original version in high school and this when it came out. In the original the main character goes back to Germany to speak out against war. Everyone thinks he is nuts and does not understand what war is. You need to watch War Horse. WW1 did not have a clear enemy it was the governments of countries falling in line to treaties they had with other countries. To think if WW1 did not happen WW2 and Korea may have not happened. There would not have been the invention of the atomic bomb. Who knows for certain. It’s a sobering thought.

The Kaiser of Germany (literally Cesar in german) was named Wilhelm the second. World War I was the end of the German Empire, and led to Germany needing to pay for the cost of the war to the allied nations (France and Britain mostly -- Germany was fighting Russia too, but the Russian empire fell in 1917 and became the soviet union). America fought in this war against Germany. but we joined in 1917 -- one year before the war ended. (we were on the allied side with France and Britain).
There had never been a war like this before in Europe -- the closest thing to it was maaaaaybe Napoleon, but not a single person alive in the 1910s was alive during that era. It had been over a hundred years since Europe had a general war where everyone was against everyone. So when these kids in France, Britain and Germany were learning about what it meant to be a soldier, a lot of them were taught that going to war was about knighthood, chivalry, and that being a soldier was this glamourous, medieval thing.
Y'all remember Glory and the civil war how they would still hold those tight formations with no armor, shoulder to shoulder and just fire and load next to each other? Europe didn't have that civil war experience -- instead, they were fast forwarded to a place in history where machine guns had already been invented, but still, for the first few months of WWI, they kept those old battalion ideas -- and it was a massacre. Almost immediately, the body count was through the roof, because nobody at the time could keep pace with how much weapons had improved. And that's before you get to the chemical attacks, tanks, and dirtiness of trench warfare. This whole war destroyed basically anyone who went through it, because of how mechanical, soulless and dirty the fighting was.
The line about it being "all quiet on the western front" is about how little life matters when you're just looking at war as numbers. Because even if your life ends, it could still be considered quiet in the grand scheme of the whole war, or the week, or month it was in. And sadly, that was the case. The real bad fighting was earlier in the war. People by 1917 had a pretty good idea of what they were going to be in store for -- word was spreading that it wasn't as advertised, and that it was a death sentence to get called to fight.

I thought so too at first, I’d only watched it in the German, but it is not so bad dubbed. I think a lot of scenes were shot in a way where it works well dubbed. Squid Games… that’s got to be in Korean. This one, not bad at all in English.

I wish someone shot that German general at the end as he was giving his stupid speech. Bastard probably hasn’t fired a single round in the war.

Regarding the impact on the men who served. I have a photo of one of my great-grandfathers taken in 1916, the year before he enlisted. He was smiling, looked like a happy young guy. I have another photo of him in uniform, taken partway through the war. He hardly looked like the same person and you could absolutely see the trauma in his face. His brother survived a gunshot wound to the head, which changed his ability to think and function. Had tremors, seizures, terrible nightmares.

Young German soldiers who want to be heroes in World War I. Asia nailed it when she said they have no idea what they're in for.

Wow I’m like 10 minutes in… I saw this when it came out, the beginning is so tragic knowing how it ends….
And like a lot of other commenters said, this is WWI not WWII. No Nazis yet. Just a bunch of countries fighting a war for no good reason at all. That will eventually set up Nazis and WWII to kick off in the future.

The Kaiser they're referring to in the movie is not Hitler. The Kaiser refers to the title historically used by German and Austrian emperors. In the context of the German Empire, it was specifically used for the emperors from 1871 to 1918. The most notable Kaiser in this period was Wilhelm II, who was the last German Emperor and King of Prussia from 1888 until his abdication in 1918.

this movie is brutal. Dont forget '1917.' Another modern WW1 movie.
Also please research a little bit more on WW1 and WW2 years and differences. It will help you in the long run understand completely. Hitler was a soldier and only 25 when WW1 started. Awesome reaction as always

Thanks for watching this one! Such a fantastic movie. Two of my great- grandfathers served in WWI, so I've always had an interest in the war and the history of this time period.
