Comments

Not a frequent commenter here, but I wanted to offer an enthusiastic "YES" and thanks for the unique, funny, and memorable appearance from Danhausen. On this episode.

Glad this annoying voice didn't persist during the entire episode, was really looking forward to seeing this one revisited and discussed, its a shame the guest for it has to be some 'rassler. Sorry to Henry who really seems to enjoy the 'rasslin but I just don't get it and never have.

The Danhausen character was, at first, confusing. “In character,” was disorienting. However, it did get me to look him up and goddammit, the guy’s FUNNY and I like what he does with the character. I’m not into wrestling, like…at all, BUT, Danhausen sucked me in and got me watching his content on YouTube. Aside from that, I REALLY appreciated his comments on the episode. The guy’s obviously a fan of all the nerdy things this fan base loves, and I think he was the perfect guest for the comic book centric episode. I’m not a wrestling fan, but I am becoming a Fanhausen.

Guess I'm the lone weirdo who didn't know the guest, but enjoyed him anyway. A youtuber I watch does indie wrestling sometimes, but other than their fights, I haven't seen much of the scene, but I'm slightly more interested now.

Love that Danhausen! Also love Donovan Danhausen the human behind Danhausen who is genuinely one of the nicest people in wrestling.

The talk about a convention space sharing space with another event reminded me of Anime North 2017. Anime North is one of the largest fan run cons in North America and we get around 30k+ people on the saturday, which was also the weekend of the Canadian Conservative Party's leadership convention. Because of all the attendees of the con, it was hard to Cons to get to the convention and a number were unable to make it in time to vote. So its very likely that Andrew Scheer won the leadership vote due to people coming to buy Attack on Titan wallets. This also was the direct cause of the founding of the far right Peoples Party of Canada. The con chair was pretty pleased with how well Anime North came off in the political press though

Loved the episode. Loved the guest. The entirety of the first 30 minutes of Kayfabe tied into the episode. Lots of old men yelling at clouds this week.

Didn’t work for me, kinda rough and appreciated when the voice got dropped but different strokes for different folks I guess. Love the podcast generally

The bit about the band Fallout Boy killed me, especially the parts about who they were married to, because as someone who was in middle school when FOB hit it big, those relationship details were VERY important to me 😂 Danhausen gets it right, Pete Wentz was married to Ashlee Simpson from 2008-2011. The Avril Lavigne thing got me too though, because I didn’t know she had been married to Deryck Whibley before (they were 2006-2010); so I thought you were confusing Sum 41 with fuckin Nickleback, as she was married to Chad Kroeger from 2013-2015. Oh, the celebrity marriage cycles. Anyway, great episode guys!

I really enjoyed Danhousen! I've never seen him wrestle having been away from the ring for a while, now I wanna see some of his matches.

One of my favorite nerd conventions intersecting with “normal” stuff has always been FURther CONfusion in San Jose, a furry convention that would happen downtown would happen at the same time as a huge college volleyball tournament for women. One year there was also a yugioh tournament, so waking past a sign that had to point in three different directions that said “furcon - yugioh - volleyball tournament” was wonderful
