REFUGE OF EMBERS (Cross promotion!)

Refuge of Embers is a hand-drawn and animated visual novel that takes place in an original fantasy setting. The PC, Mac, Linux, & Android release links are available for free on Patreon and the latest pre-release versions are available to supporters.

The story follows the renamable main character Biorn as the world he knows gives way to change that causes him to discover a deeper purpose. Biorn lives a simple life with his friends in a remote frontier town at the edge of the known world. Events eventually lead him to Pyre, an enormous capital city where he encounters unusual new characters and situations.

The story will have you playing through branching paths as you unlock endings for each character, and major adult content settings are fully toggleable in the options menu. Outside of standard visual novel mechanics you can find objects hidden in backgrounds throughout the story that will unlock secret bonus scenes in the gallery. There are also secret options and other things to discover with more secrets planned to be implemented over time.

The latest supporter version 0.10 is our largest to date and features about 30 minutes of gameplay as well as the fully completed prologue chapter. Our next release is version 0.11 and will be launched within the next few days. Now that the prologue chapter is complete we’re back to 60 day release windows and as support continues to grow we’ll be able to support larger updates.

Escape Sauce is a team of two devs, an artist and a coder, and we both love working on this project. Outside of development we play a lot of tabletop fantasy games together and it’s very important to us that we capture the kind of rich world building that makes a fantasy universe feel lived in.
