The original plan was for Jesse to be killed off at the end of the first season from a deal gone bad. As revenge, Walt kidnaps the dealer and ties him up under his house, hooked up to a booby trap with a shotgun. Walter Jr would have found the dealer, tried to set him free, and would be killed in the process. However, the reaction to Jesse by the viewers was positive, so Vince Gilligan decided not to go that route. Good choice lol.
