Do you see the difference?

    Thank you so much for supporting the project this month! And phew! What a major chunk of modelling is done. Sorry for being silent lately, just wanted to finish this thing as soon as possible! 

By the popular request, people wanted to see more detailed style for the characters than was shown in the first demo... It's surely 10 times more time consuming to make, but its also very rewarding. 

Let's take a look what exactly has changed since I last posted about them:

Its never just enough to sculpt the model, you can't just put millon-polygon-model into the engine, its just not going to be able to handle it! 

First step of putting the initial sculpt into the game is to make the retopology, by manually placing polygons (and triangles) in strategic places, working hard to preserve silhouette. 

Next is to do the UV mapping - sort of like making pelts from the model, making sure it has as least seams as possible, while also minimizing distortion. After all, unwrapping is about turning a model from 3d space into a 2d space so it knows how it's supposed to display 2d textures.

And third step is baking... At this time we take the hi-poly mesh and project it's details onto the lowpoly mesh, all the data processed is written down into special maps (such as normal map, you might've seen the weird blue textures in other game files before). 3d engines are using this data to fake all the juicy details, making a lowpoly model almost indistinguishable from a high-poly one.
