I took the heightmap of the first level that's going to be in Planes of Existence and put it through some cool photoshop tricks... Wanted to see if I can make it in a similar style to Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and I think I got it pretty close!
I have to say that lately this game has been giving me some of the best inspiration I ever had! I don't even own a WiiU or Switch to play it - but I'm deeply captured by it's ingenious design, charming graphics, gameplay freedom... even just by watching youtube videos.
What came as a big surprise to me is that they approached the whole interaction with the elements very similarly to what I always (even before starting work) had in mind for our game!
With temperature and electricity systems in Zelda: BotW they provided a consistent list of rules and natural phenomena that affect not only the characters, but items and the surrounding world. This is very similar to what we're working to achieve, and so far it's been very educational to study and get inspired by that game.
