Today's whiskey pick is Writers Tears Copper Pot. I really enjoyed tasting this fairly new Irish whiskey. First off, how can you not love the name? The story behind it is that many Irish writers suffered from writers block. Many sought comfort and inspiration from drinking whiskey. The relaxing characteristics of whiskey helped many of them overcome their writers block and produce inspired works of poetry, prose and plays. Writer’s Tears is a salute to these great Irish writers. Golden Irish tears.
This Irish whiskey is a blend of single pot still and malt whiskey. I found it light and sweet, very smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. I'd say this one is at the top of my favorite list.
Nose : Honey and marmalade streaking the fruity barley.
Palate : Round body and full rich flavor, a hint of citrus and an initial flourish of spicy, malty sweetness that quickly leaves the stage to drier, firmer characters.
Finish: Honey marmalade returns as an echo of the aroma to provide the final moments of a decently long finish.
