Kaiju Heart Ch 20: Finding Shelter Within, The Coming Battle!

Lying flat on my back, I stared ahead, blinking through the haze of smoke and fire that surrounded me. The ground trembled beneath me, the remnants of this pitiful city still crumbling, the air thick with the acrid stench of burning stone. And there, towering over the wreckage like a metal god, was a human creation—a steel monstrosity that dared to challenge me. Its mechanical limbs stretched high, cannons locked on my form, ready to strike again.

Another human invention, another tool of destruction made to destroy my kind.

I growled, the deep rumble of my voice vibrating through the earth as I began to push myself up. Smoke curled from my skin where its blast had struck, the heat of it barely a nuisance, but the insult—oh, the insult of it burned hotter than anything. My claws dug into the ground, massive and unyielding, as I raised my body once more.

I lifted my head, eyes scanning the charred landscape. And then, there they were—those two insignificant humans. The little woman, the one I wanted more than any other, lay broken upon my body. The other... the one who had somehow escaped me before, the one who seemed determined to defy me at every turn—he was there too, climbing up my leg like some insect, as if my body was his to claim.

My blood boiled.

"Damn you..." I muttered under my breath, my lips curling back as I felt the anger swelling inside me. Who was this human to think he could stand in my way? Time and time again, he had interfered. Time and time again, he had defied me. And now, here he was again, crawling over me as if I were some mountain to be conquered.

"Damn you!" I roared, my voice shaking the air, rattling the broken ruins around us. My hand reached out, fingers stretching towards them, ready to snatch them up, to crush them for their insolence. How dare they think they could defy me, again and again? How dare they think they could get away?

But before my claws could close around them, a sudden force slammed into my face. Pain exploded across my vision as my head was driven back, my jaw smashing into the ground with a deafening crash. The force of the blast sent shockwaves through the city, the earth shuddering beneath the impact.

That's it. That's enough.

I pushed myself up again, my muscles straining as I forced my head off the ground, teeth clenched so hard I thought they might shatter. Blue fire blazed in my vision, radiating from my eyes as fury consumed me. These humans... these pathetic, insignificant beings... they would know. They would know what it meant to challenge Flariona.

"That's it," I growled, the blue flames in my eyes growing brighter, hotter. The earth beneath me trembled, the air itself seeming to warp under the weight of my rage. I would burn them all, every last one of them.

Kaguya was still limp in my arms, her body bruised, her skin burned. I cradled her, holding her as close as I could while everything around us erupted into chaos. Flariona's body beneath us shuddered with such force that it felt like the earth itself was breaking apart. Her growls rumbled through the air, and then I saw it—blue flames flickering back to life, surging with her rising fury.

"We need to get out of here, now!" I shouted to no one in particular, my voice desperate. My legs moved on instinct, carrying both of us forward as fast as I could manage. Sweat poured down my face, soaking through my clothes. Every breath was a struggle, my lungs burning with each inhale of the hot, smoky air. Kaguya's weight made it harder, but I wasn't leaving her behind. Not now. Not after all this.

But just as I pushed forward, the world seemed to tilt. Flariona's massive form began to rise beneath me, her body shifting, and suddenly the ground vanished from under my feet. I didn't have time to scream—I was falling, the sensation of the world dropping away pulling a sharp cry from my throat as the wind rushed past me.

I flailed in the air, my arms clutching at nothing, my mind racing in panic. I reached out, desperate, hoping to grab anything that could stop my fall. And just when I thought I was done for, my hand snagged something—a hard, curved surface. I gripped it tightly, my fingers burning from the strain as I dangled for a moment, trying to steady my breath.

With one arm, I pulled myself up, muscles straining as I heaved myself onto what I thought was a ledge. Only when I caught my breath did I look down and realize where I was.

Her belly button.

I blinked, panting, half-disbelieving. Of course, it wasn't a ledge—it was a hollow in Flariona's skin, the very navel of this monstrous Kaiju. I huddled inside, pressing Kaguya close to my chest. She was still unconscious, completely unaware of the madness unfolding around us.

For a moment, I just sat there, staring in awe as Flariona continued to rise, her massive form shifting as she stood fully upright. The world seemed to sway around me as she moved, the sheer scale of her overwhelming. Everything felt so small compared to her, compared to this living landscape of black scales and flames.

And then I saw it.

Ahead of us, towering over the ruins of the city, was that massive robot—the one that had knocked Flariona down. It loomed in the distance, an iron colossus, with mechanical limbs that gleamed in the dying light of the fires. The cannon on its arm was still aimed at Flariona, ready to fire again.

"Whoa..." The word slipped from my lips as I looked forward, half in awe, half in terror. This—this was beyond anything I'd ever seen. Two giants facing off, one of metal and one of flesh and fire. And here I was, stuck in the middle of it all, hiding in the belly button of a Kaiju, with no plan, no way out, and Kaguya barely holding on to life.

I had to move. I had to do something.

But first, I had to survive this.
