2024-08-11 17:48:34 +0000 UTCWhen The Matron of Ravens was introduced, i posted a little comment that a Cleric i played for a one-shot worshipped her as his deity. This is why. She is a god of death, but she does not lord over death. She is a shepherd. She minds the gate, and that goes both ways. Her alignment is Lawful Neutral. She lives by a code, neither good nor evil. Death is an inevitability. Unavoidable. Neither good nor evil. My one-shot Cleric, William Door III ("Most folk jus' call me Bill!") is a cheerful and exuberant man. Hardly what you'd expect from someone who worships a God of death. Most of his clan are like this. They provide services to families of those at death's door. They bring a festive atmosphere with them, ensuring the soon to be departed that their loved ones are in good hands. The most dreaded day for a loving family becomes a celebration of life. It's kind of a Day of the Dead thing. He's a fun character to play and has become a favorite NPC with my table.

2024-08-10 22:24:06 +0000 UTCYeah, no, the matron isn't evil - but death gods are always a bit off for people who fear death, so it's easy to get the creeps off of her. And when you consider the circumstances under which we meet her, it's not dificult to see her as an evil entity at first.
