Added 2024-02-04 11:11:49 +0000 UTCLast year I feel I got a little too comfortable with my shooting, in that I don't feel like I pushed myself out of my comfort zone enough. A big part of this was due to some significant ups and downs with my mental health - when things don't feel great anyway, taking risks seems like far too much to handle. However, when I shot with Misty I must have been feeling in a better mood as I decided to shoot this set with a hard light, always with the intention of editing the images in black and white, whereas the less adventurous me would probably have opted for a red backdrop and my normal way of lighting my red sets.
This year I am determined to push myself out of my comfort zone a lot more, and have already started doing so. I recently had my first shoot with a male subject since October 2019 (the partner of one of my favourite models), and on Friday I used fake blood for the first time (and when you're shooting at home, avoiding making a mess is paramount!). Coming up I have a shoot booked that will include large snakes, and a few of the models I have recently started shooting with have very creative minds and are throwing ideas at me that I know will challenge me. Good times!
