Added 2021-01-03 18:37:58 +0000 UTCVery emotional movie! All three of us were blind to this! Beautiful music, great acting and hardly any dialog. Poor Mom cried a lot. It is important to know and see what our soldiers went through in war. What a great movie!

A great 'sequel' to this would be Band of Brothers, available on HBO. Produced by Spielberg and Hanks, it portrays the hardships, misadventures, and camaraderie of a particular company within the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne, who somehow found themselves constantly at the spearhead of the Allied Invasion's campaign from the U.K. to Germany. If my memory serves, D-day took place after these events, once the Allies were able to regroup, thanks to the recovery depicted here. The Airborne dropped in behind enemy lines a handful of hours before the Navy made landfall on the beaches.

It's five enemy planes downed that distinguishes a fighter pilot as an Ace, a highly respected and distinguished class, universally recognized the world over.
