2025-03-29 18:16:18 +0000 UTCProblem with the 2nd and 3rd movies is that they are SO freaking different from the book that they are almost not related. Cranks were dang near zombies in the movies while in the book they were just CRAZY AF people. Edit: Ok, so I just finished your reaction. In the 2nd book, after the "resistance group" gets the kids out of the WICKED maze facility they take them to a safehouse. It's a regular house type safehouse. There are two rooms. One for boys and one for girls. When the kids wake up the resistance group is gone. The kids work out pretty fast that this is a new WICKED test and find an underground escape from the house. Once they escape it leads to a long tunnel (kind of like the tunnel leading from the maze to the control room in the 1st movie). Once they leave that tunnel, The actual Scorch Trials begin. The 2nd book DOES actually involve something called the Scorch Trials, while this movie doesn't have a Scorch Trial. In the book Jorge and Brenda both worked for WICKED. Jorge was a Berg (the flying machine that Ava had the kids put into at the end of this movie) pilot and I think Brenda was his assist. They were both immunes. They weren't loyal to WICKED. In this movie Jorge was the head of a gang and Brenda was his 2nd but in the book they were undercover in that gang, still as the gang leader and 2nd, but did it for WICKED as part of the Trials. Getting back to the cranks, I think they took HEAVY inspiration from The Last of Us with the movie cranks. As I previously said, the cranks were just people that caught the flare virus and went bat shit crazy. They would easily mutilate themselves without hesitation, kill other people, etc. They didn't grow roots and stuff like that. The virus would eventually kill them and if I remember correctly it was airborne, so you wouldn't even need to be bitten or scratched. The last thing I'll say is that the whole blood enyzme thing is movie only. They had something that would prevent infection but it was rare and wouldn't do anything if you were already infected. Again, if I remember correctly. It's been about a decade since I listened to The Fever Code (second prequel book in the Maze Runner series and takes place RIGHT before the 1st Maze Runner book starts).
