Added 2024-09-23 19:00:03 +0000 UTCYour fourth Subject Agency Assignment is:
You may have encountered someone who thinks (or you might think yourself) that knowing how hypnosis works diminishes your ability to be hypnotized. Understanding how you personally respond to hypnosis, however, is integral to having strong agency as a subject. Your assignment for Week 4 is to answer the following questions:
1. Why is it important for someone to have strong subject agency?
2. How might a person with strong subject agency use their knowledge of how hypnosis works to have a more powerful hypnotic experience?
3. "All hypnosis is self-hypnosis" is a common saying in the hypnosis community that some believe is the absolute truth. What do you think, and why?
4. Bonus: Choose and listen to one of my files from the "Accept, Reject, Adjust" Collection and analyze, to the best of your ability, your physical and mental reactions to being hypnotized.
This assignment is available to all members.
Comments
its important having subject agency to keep urself safe during hypnosis to only follow what u feel is safe. someone can use subject agency to keep themself safe and reject anything they dont find acceptable. all hypnosis is self hypnosis since ur the one taking urself deeper following the hypnotist guidance.

How might a person with strong subject agency use their knowledge of how hypnosis works to have a more powerful hypnotic experience? A 1/2. For direct suggestions: it allows for problematic suggestions to be modified into better ones; it allows for suggestsions to be altered into more fun ones; it can fix times when rapport would have been broken, due to the hypnotist saying something that doesn't make sense for that subject. If the 'tist is using very open suggestions, then the subject will be naturally filling in the details anyway. The problem comes when the 'tist is using NLP to lead the subject to fill in the blanks, in a way that feels like the subjects own ideas, but is actually very strongly biased. Also, the conscious & subconscious can have significantly different understandings of the same words - it can seem safe & sane to the conscious, and then the subconscious goes and interprets it in a dumb way. [...Having done this to myself with one of my own files :-D :-/ ] Q 3. "All hypnosis is self-hypnosis" is a common saying in the hypnosis community that some believe is the absolute truth. What do you think, and why? A 3. It is the subject who has to do the imagining, and technically they don't have to, or can then imagine different things. ... Except you can't not think about a Pink Elephant, no matter how hard you try to not think about a Pink Elephant. You can choose to also think of a Green Giraffe, and you might also get into the habit of polymorphing any Pink Elephants you see into Green Giraffes, ... but there will always be that brief image of those pesky Pink Elephants, ... right? ;-p (Especially if the 'tist is a cheeky monkey using lots of NLP.) Although I am discovering that sometimes, with NLP, in a few days the subjects mind can have a "hang on a minute - something isn't right!" moment. It is as if rapport breaks, but they can't put their finger on exactly why, and they cut contact, or get bratty, or over-compensate, flipping from super-helpful to being defensive.
