[UPDATE] Billing change canceled (for now)

A good update on my page's change from per-creation to subscription billing! I'm happy to report that it's been called off until further notice, and per-creation billing will continue as normal. There will be no changes to tiers or benefits this year.

The rest of this post is just a more detailed explanation for the curious, but that's really all you need to know!

This was a result of a legal battle between Epic Games and Apple, which forced Apple to loosen its control over how apps can present payment options. This is important to us specifically because now it's legal for Patreon to direct you away from paying the ridiculous 30% fee within the iOS app. The big "Join" button will now have the default price originally set by creators without the fee tacked on. It helps me make sure you're not overpaying for your subscription or shop items. It's a huge win for all of us. Apple says it will appeal the decision so it's still evolving.

This also means that I can continue making ALL my art available to ALL tiers since I'm allowed to stay with the billing model that financially supports me the best. I was dreading that I'd have to restrict certain tiers from some of my work because in a perfect world, I'd get to share all of my art for free with everyone. It's my favorite way to connect with people and I'm happy I get to keep doing that to the fullest extent. This is a massive weight off my shoulders. I'm sure Apple legal is working overtime on their appeal case to try to corner us again, but for now, things are good and I cross my fingers that it'll remain so. In the case a new timeline to switch billing models is introduced, I think I have a good plan for us thanks to your input.

Furthermore, if you want to subscribe to me via the app, you can now. Previously, per-creation creators had been removed from the app because Apple didn't support our billing model, but we're back! I don't think many of us use the app to be honest, but in the next few days the update will roll out.
