Patreon app + Apple store update
Added 2024-08-12 16:01:55 +0000 UTCHi guys, I learned this morning that Apple wants a 30% bite out of creator income, so if and only if you use the Patreon app to subscribe to creators, that means an extra 30% tacked on to your tier price. THIS FEE DOESN'T EXIST FOR DESKTOP, MOBILE SITE, ANDROID USERS, GOOGLE PLAY, ETC.
This is solely a change that affects you if you subscribe through the Patreon app at the Apple app store. Using the app to browse/view creator pages you're subscribed to is fine, it just applies if you use the app to actually do the act of subscribing.
Just don't use the app honestly. I'm not sure who does since it's janky as hell, but just in case.
You can unsubscribe and then resub through any other method that's not the app and you're fine.
This will go into effect for new subs starting in November of this year.

2024-08-14 09:47:31 +0000 UTCHank Green has a great video on how different apps in the apple store handle their 30% additional fee, apple is also currently being sued because of it, i dont want to put links to the video and articles because i dont know if it'll get flagged as spam so the video is called "STOP Subscribing to Things on your Phone!!!!" by hankschannel on Youtube, its not just patreon as well its Every subscription based app in the store, so if you've used your phone to subscribe to anything in an app from the apple store please double check and cancel it and resubscribe on desktop!
