Tate McRae - So Close To What (album)

My first time listening to a Tate McRae album. Let me know what you think in the comments :)

Tate McRae - So Close To What (album)

Comments

Tate did an interview about her and Kid Laroi and the song I Know Love is exactly how they got together. They were friends for a couple of years and happened to be at the same place in Mexico and he called her to hang out and they have been together ever since.

Revolving Door is my favorite 🤩 I definitely plan on listening to some older stuff. That’s interesting to hear that she wanted to keep dance separate. She’s so talented

I didn’t want to pick any faves until I listened a few times. But my faves are It’s Ok, I’m Ok, Revolving Door, Sports Car, Nostalgia, and Purple Lace Bra in no particular order. I’ve been a fan of Tate since she was on So You Think You Can Dance and she posted YouTube vids called Create with Tate. It’s been so cool to see her grow and evolve. I love her last album Think Later and I think I will also grow to love this one too. A fun fact about Tate. She is pretty introverted in personality and she says that she has this alter ego who is the fierce, badass side of her who she jokes and calls Tatiana. That’s who she channels when she’s on stage and how she gets all the confidence, which I think is super cool. She has worked so hard and I’m so proud to see her music reaching new audiences. I’m glad you reacted to her. I would love to see you also react to her other past work too. As you go back further you will see the shift. She started off making mostly sad ballads. She said that she felt that she wanted to keep the dancing side of her and the music side of her separate. But as she has grown she realized she enjoyed the process of making music she could dance to because both are her passions.

Those are all great producers that I'd love to hear her with. I'd especially love a Finneas collab. Those were also my favorite tracks. I think they did a great job of choosing the singles. Rooting for her as well.

Daniel Juke

Thanks for clearing that up!

Daniel Juke

YES!! I've heard Messy but that's it. Great song.

Daniel Juke

Hey Juke, have you heard the songs Messy by Lola Young? If not please react to it. It’s so good! Her music is unlike anything out right now. Her songs Wish You Were Dead, and Conceited are really good too!

My favorite tracks are Revolving door, 2 hands, and it’s ok, i’m ok. I feel the exact same way I felt when I listened to Sports car, after listening to the album: she’s extremely talented, and I just want to see her evolve. I think she’s a solid songwriter, and she’ll only improve with age. I feel like she’d benefit greatly from working with different producers, in addition to Ryan, on future projects. I’d love to hear her work with Cirkut, Andrew Watt, Finneas, Stuart Price, and Ian Kirkpatrick to name a few off the top of my head. I think different producers would also inspire her to push herself vocally, because her vocal range is much larger than what she’s exhibiting here. I’d also love to hear longer length tracks from her. Keeping in mind that she’s only 21, I’m truly rooting for her. If the music elevates to the level of her dancing, she’ll have longevity without question. Btw, the actual term for the “whisper” register (as you call it) is “falsetto”. 😂

The line from Revolving Door, “I still think about that night out in Boston” refers to the title track of her last album, Think Later. In the song Think Later, it says “Met you in a night out in Boston, Put your hand on my thigh in The Commons..” so it is referencing her last album and that song in particular. There are actually quite a few callbacks I noticed from this new album to her last album.
