Hi all! I wanted to let you know that I will be launching another Kickstarter project soon - the Tome of Maps: Dungeon Edition. There are just some final bits we are getting into place before launch, but be sure to follow using the link below, as we will have discounts within the first 48 hours of launch!
Today, I wanted to discuss more of this book's design, in the form of a Random Ramblings post. But first, we need to go back to the first battlemap book I made, the Tome of Maps: Forest Edition.
Around a year ago, I began to play with the idea of making a battlemap book with three ways to play, on a single or double page spread, or putting two of the same book together to form one large battlemap. Here, I spent weeks coming up with design ideas, and for a while I didn't think it was going to be feasible. However, I cracked it and the Tome of Maps: Forest Edition was born!
While this was what I wanted, I felt as if this didn't go far enough. Why? The idea of putting two books together to form one large map had worked, although only very specific maps could go together. It wasn't as flexible/usable as I had desired.
So after that campaign, I went back to the drawing board. How could I make the book even more useful, while also keeping a similar design? Well, the answer laid in the way the Tome of Maps: City Edition ended up being made - having a single edge on every page where the two books could meet, allowing DMs from around the world to effectively pick and choose what maps they wanted...increasing modularity further.
Although...here's where it now goes kina crazy. After the success of the City Edition - I wondered again how I could take it to more extreme measures.
These are initial test prints for the Tome of Maps: Dungeon Edition battlemap book, and I've now designed them in a way that MULTIPLE books can go together. This map is 12 ft. (about 3.5m) long, and that's JUST with 12 books. I couldn't make it longer, not because I didn't have enough unique rooms - I ran out of test printed books.
Anyway, I hope you liked this post - a lil bit different from just a straight up announcement post. XD
Enjoy!
