Ok... wow. AMAZING performances. And that ranking tho! Who's your bet to win it all??

Includes: Full episode reaction (uncut)

Also, as the finale is next week, please let me know here or DM what show you guys want us to watch next! I will DEFINITELY be watching "Kingdom" because the rumoured participants are most of the ones I react to on my channel! But since we don't know the air date for that yet, we probably want something to tie us over.

My ideas so far:

- RTK dance practice reactions (3-4 groups per batch)

- Hit The Stage

- Full Concert Reactions (will have to figure this out structure-wise still)

📋 Having troubles viewing the video? Please refer to this post for solutions. If you still encounter a problem, please DM me here on Patreon or on my Instagram.

Please watch and react to Queendom too! 💜

I had to stop after Pentagon's performance to write this. I'm a huge Pentagon fan and I was so proud of them throughout the show. They're amazing group and I'm always sad because they don't really get recognition - Shine was a huge hit, but it became huge at the end of promotions (they actually extended the promotions because people started loving it) so they never got the win with it and they still don't have their first win... so their desperation was painful for us, the fans too because we understand it well and it's already been a long time since they debuted. There was also the fact that they're the oldest here... But that aside, I'm so happy they showed once again how talented and skilled they are - self-producing (almost all members compose) and all that... Hui has been called "genius idol composer" for a reason after all hahaha (I don't know if you know, but he was in two competitions/shows before this for like... singers-songwriters, so I feel like general public is already familiar with his composing skills... he also composes for other idols - he wrote Wanna One's Energetic for example). Also, I feel like they're one of the groups with strongest vocalists in general - especially since they have 7 vocalists and like... 5 of them are excellent vocalists (with Jinho and Hui really being on another level - Jinho is also a vocal coach and a musical actor and has his monthly project Magazine Ho where he covers songs (of course not a the moment since he's in the army, but there's like 40 covers there already)) - I know this sounds biased, but I've been listening to kpop since 2005 and their vocals were one of the main reasons why I fell in love with them so much. So yeah, the point is that I'm happy they got to showcase that once again and hopefully get more recognition from general public... I'll be waiting for the next comeback and hope to see the fandom grow.

RisingSunbebe

wait, did anyone tell you that vixx actually used the moonlight sonata in their career? they had a trilogy: dynamite - fantasy - closer they first gained attention for creepy concepts, but this era was probably the start of their beautiful outstanding concepts, that was the new level for them so the whole tbz's performance felt like a tribute to vixx (if we are talking about vixx... a.c.e covered their song on&on, would be great to see your reaction to both original and cover)

Maria

I can't believe people are saying they were disappointed with The Boyz' performance.... I wasn't a massive fan of Shangri-La when it was released but their performance was stunning to me. I loved everything about it and fell in love with the song. In all fairness I can't compare to the original but I think thats what makes me able to see it in a seperate light without comparison. I came into this not stanning any of these groups to hardcore stanning 3 of them and finding newfound interest and mad respect for everyone. But The Boyz really blew everything out of the water with each and every performance. I don't see why people are calling their performance here disappointing cause it wasn't the same as when Vixx did it is ridiculous to me. It's never gonna be the same as how the original artist did it thats the whole point of a cover. The interpreted the song beautifully while keeping the intial element of it. Far from a disappointment if you ask me

Chloe Borley-Evans

Shangri-La was requested a lot? Yay! React to it please~

Chiyoko Shin

Yes I think I’ll start with Dr Bebe!

seth james

Because I know you love vocals, I wanna tell you that objectively that Pentagon's two main vocalists (Hui and Jinho) are two of the best vocals in kpop.I am excited for you to hopefully start checking them out on your channel to appreciate it. I think many of their songs are vocal centric and def something I believe you would put on your playlist.

Fatima

I actually liked Pentagon's performance the least, so I wasn't really that surprised. It was great and all, but all the others had more highlights/things I remember from the performances, and they got a difficult song. I liked ONF the best this round, so for the first time, the ranking was actually quite similar to my own. I also think The Boyz were brave to do a contemporary concept, since that usually ranks lower, but they really surprised me, and now I think they will go super intense for the final^^ Oh, and I would really love to see RTK dance practice reactions!!

Elll

I’m guessing having a lineup of artists that big is hard considering their schedules. It would be great to see an updated season!

seth james

Ahhh thank you so much for this info! I miss so much too so we’re balancing each other out haha!

seth james

Totally makes sense about The Boyz! I think because everyone’s so good it’s like I have to pick apart these performances just so I can actually make a ranking 😂 But I loved it nonetheless! 😁 Glad you’re checking out TOO outside of the competition 👍🏽

seth james

I’m (very) slowly checking out girl groups and i believe we’ll be able to check out MAMAMOO after Dreamcatcher whom I have on my list 👍🏽

seth james

Also, I do love the idea of you reacting to Hit The Stage!!! It was such a good and fun show! I really wish they would bring it back ;~;

Cat R

Youngjoon(the person which verivery called him) he actually a very famous choreographer which choreograph for many groups in the industry actually, he even are the one who choreograph the original choreograph of the boyz reveal and many more iconic dance move(so that the reason why he been choose as one of the mentor on pd series) also I don't know if you notice that they do a formation to spell out the word vixx which are the original artist of this song too and there are a point that I saw most reactor tend to miss it that when they line up to dance at the very end of their show the member actually appear twice each (it only five of them running around to fill up the line) and they do it perfectly that cause some people to not notice that point as they not familiar with their face yet but for me I was like what why it him again and after I watched the full cam ver I see how much effort they put to make that point perfect too. Lastly thank for your reaction it always help me caught some aspects that I miss during each performance and it make me enjoy some of those performance more😉

WIZONEITLOΛEB10

I know what you mean when it comes to VeriVery's performance, they definitely are capable of so much more but when they said it was going to be based off the Aladdin parade scene I was picturing something much more grand and over the top, the stage felt a bit empty set wise and there was too much going on yet not enough going on at the same time if that makes sense. I agree with what you said, it became more about the movie concept rather than their performance. For TOO, I didn't like their stage at all, I actually ended up skipping through it :l the arrangement was fine I suppose but the "young gangster/punk" concept felt really cheesy and a little too much for me, I didn't like the styling as it felt amateur but also kind of stereotypical. I do like TOO, I plan on getting into them more after this show too but this stage was my least favorite from them so far. As for The Boyz, I can understand what you mean but at the same time I felt like their stage was perfect and it kept me engaged the entire time! They did say they wanted to change the structure of normal choreo so they put the "exciting" stuff or the "dance break" in the beginning and slowed it down at the end. If you think of the story, it's them searching for a paradise so the journey there is intense but once they get there everything is serene and peaceful so the structure of the performance makes sense to me.

Cat R

You said you do not know Mamamoo and I can really recommend you to check them out, either on your channel or just in your free time :). I know you like vocals and they are pretty much vocal QUEENS

Aaliyah

My ranking for this round: 1) ONF- Before this episode I listened to all the songs I hadn't previously heard like "It's Raining." Their arrangement took what I felt was a blah song and made it great. (I think the reason they haven't been showing the arranging process for the other groups is because the other groups haven't been doing any arranging. They probably showed this tidbit with ONF because they didn't like what had been arranged for them and their feedback ended up being crucial to their outcome.) When all is said and done, ONF will gain the most from RTK, even if they don't make it to Kingdom (for June's Kpop boy group rankings, ONF was FOURTH behind BTS, EXO, and NCT--ahead of Shinee, Seventeen, and other established groups). A lot of people are only watching the performances, not the whole show. ONF has done a great job performing in ways that allow their personalities to show through. Because the Boyz performances have been pretty perfect (down to synchronized eyebrows) and PTG have been great actors, less of their group's personality have shown in the actual performances. I think they'll take away less new fans than ONF. 2) Oneus- their concept was unique, the theme to Romeo and Juliet was well blended into their arrangement, and they had a nice surprise moment when the crests of the two houses were rolled out and then cut in two. The changes to the rap helped convey their concept to those who weren't familiar with the R&J theme. 3) Pentagon- I'm not a huge fan of Follow and still wasn't after this version so I might be biased. The performance had a lot of great moments like when Kino's hands covered Shinwon's eyes and Hui's tutting. There were some great vocals too, but I felt like the ending was tacked on. I do give Hui props. I think most people assigned to rearrange a song this amped up would go the other direction and make it more melodic or slow it down. It takes a lot of courage to say, "You think that's intense--hold my beer." PTG received some hate because they changed the song "too much." I disagree. Anyone can do a cover, it takes an artist to make it something new. 4) The Boyz- The contemporary dance elements were excellent, but I didn't like the musical arrangement. It was almost like changing radio stations going back and forth between Shangri-la and Moonlight Sonata--I wish they had blended the two pieces better. As with PTG, the ending didn't feel integrated into the performance. 5) TOO- I actually really liked this performance. Like ONF, they did a good job demonstrating who they are. They brought a lot of youthfulness and energy, but it wasn't at the level of the others. 6) VeryVery- I wanted to like this, but between all of the props and the costume changes, it felt a bit chaotic to me. I don't think using one-shot helped their performance--the camera spinning from scene to scene kind of added to the chaos. I read that first place will get 35,000 points this time, so it's still anyone's game.

D Gal

I would love to see you react to the dance practices. Even though the practices are pretty raw, they still give you a good idea of what the performance should look like since the camerawork on the show sometimes fail to do that, so I think reacting to the dance practices is a great idea.

Rachel Barrett

Can't believe RTK is going to be over next week :.( OMG idk if I'm late but I think it would be great if you could react & analyze to the dance practices of each RTK performance (if you haven't already)! The practice videos just show so much more than MNET can and you can see the nice details that are hidden from all the darkness, flashing lights, camera zoom, etc. Maybe reacting to the vids as an ending finale of the Road to Kingdom reaction series (since you know and been through all the performances)? Thank you for your intellectual reactions Jeff!

AmyY927

LOL I love it! I enjoy survival shows too cause I love seeing the process. I can relate so much! Will you not be sticking around for Kingdom? You’re saying you’re gonna miss me already! Haha

seth james

Yeah I’m sad the show is ending too BUT Kingdom is coming so that would be cool! I think ONF has a big chance of getting in 😁

seth james

Oh damn. Sorry that happened! But I really appreciate it and I hope that it was worth it lol. I can’t do more right now cause of my schedule but maybe in the future!

seth james

I thought about this actually haha.

seth james

Yeah I hope there’s no elimination too and it’s just really a chance to be creative and be amazing. I think you’re right. As much as I respect every group on RTK, it would be hard to see some of them compete with the rumoured groups.

seth james

I'm not a fan of any of the group in the show (I just like survival shows too damn much that's why I'm here😆). but no one does it like the boyz. their creativity is on the whole another level. they are the only group I can never predict excectly. everyone is hardworking and everything but sorry I can't imagine any other group competing in the kingdom... also I will definitely miss watching your rtk reactions!

Olga Smilianska

Hey I've been loving all your reactions so far, so sad it's ending next week. It would be cool if you could react to the finale songs of the groups if you haven't listen to them already! I'm really hoping ONF goes to Kingdom, even though my bias was always Oneus, I really have fallen in love with ONF even more than before, so I'm rooting for them. Will be here to watch any content you put up later, you cute cute boy :)

Julian

Ohhhhh I almost forgot about recommending the shows ateez has. I recommend you watching KQ fellaz it has 19 episodes but each episode is short( it's their training in america–dance) then the next is codename is ateez their predebut show and then ateez wanted. They're all entertaining to watch since you'll get to know more about the members and their journey from pre-debut up to now

Danise Hau

I wish you upload more content here before my subscription ends cause your girl got scolded hahaha

Danise Hau

Weekly idol of oneus and ateez is a very nice episode. It would also be nice if you watched To be World Klass it didn't get as much hype as PDx101 but it was a nice show especially since the TOO members are talented as hell.

Danise Hau

It will be refreshing

Joel Ashish Chowdary

I hope you also consider the regular variety show like weeklly idol and idol room

Joel Ashish Chowdary

Personally I feel like Pentagon know they need to switch it up but they're scared to in a sense. Pentagon have done a lot of cuter concepts in the past so I think that's why now they're more showing a darker side. With that being said I really liked the aggressiveness they added to follow it added just so much to the song but i could understand if others didn't like it. I think it will be tbz and ptg going to kingdom but with the groups that are said to be on there I feel bad saying this but they wont survive. Just cause how toxic some of the fandoms are. The boyz may have a slight chance but wouldn't win and anyone else just wouldn't survive on kingdom. I just hope kingdom doesn't have an elimination concept because that's where fanwars really start.

Brooke A

Yes that is why I think this show is great platform for groups. Like for me I would’ve never checked these groups out until this show! I know some people think there are questionable editing but I do believe that the groups have more to gain than to lose 😊

seth james

Yeah these kind of explanations definitely adds to the experience. It’s a shame we don’t get these info during the show so we’re like completely blind. But that is what art is. You really have to look deep to see it’s full meaning 👍🏽

seth james

Yeah I felt the same way for that latter half of the song. The beginning was great tho! I’ll have to check Vixx out then!

seth james

Wow, I had gotten so confused on the groups that PICKED Gogobebe for VERIVERY. The way that the show is put together and moves so fast with so many twists I don't know how I missed it and completely confused it. I thought that Oneus picked the Mamamoo song with the way they were apologizing, because Mamamoo is their senior sister group in their company, RBW. Either way, all of then were great performances and despite my Oneus bias, I am very impressed with all of the other groups and found myself more open to their music in general, ESPECIALLY Pentagon because before I didn't like their music at all. So I feel like a testament to the notion that they are going to get more recognition because of this show, because they caught me.

Arianna Darkholm

I read somewhere that someone commented that Younghoon was injured. In this case i have to correct that misconception. Younghoon was busy preparing for a drama. Hence he couldn't participate as much as possible. Just like to point that out. That being said, i'm going to borrow this explanation from a k-deobi who interpreted the performance for The Boyz take of Shangri-La (Mark Park from youtube did a beautiful translation): In the beginning, there was a scene where Younghoon sat alone and dropped petals into the "lake". In Shangri-La (dowonkyung; paradise) it is a taboo to drop petals into water. In the fable 桃花源記 (The Peach Blossom Land) which is about Shangri-La (dowonkyung), there is a fisherman who entered paradise but was warned not to tell anybody about this experience. However, on his way back, he marked his routes with signs and told others about this paradise but their search was in vain. There is a poem that read: " A clear stream by the side, a tower standing on top of it There were plenty of radiant flowers in front of the platform Do not send petals floating in secret flowing water Are you worried that the fisherman will visit you?" The petals that Younghoon dropped is an act of breaking taboo because if you find Shagri-La through the petals, you can go to the beautiful paradise. By doing so, members in the regular world will be able to enter paradise by following the contents of the poem. In summary, Younghoon is in paradise, the rest in regular world. Him dropping petals are so that the members can find him in Shangri-La. Why would the members want to go to paradise? It is because, Shangri-La is a place whereby all members can come together. The place where Younghoon was is a desolate place. But in the closing scene, the place was beautiful, filled with blossoming flowers. However in the middle of the performance, there was a door which acts like a gate. Some were able to pass through it but Sunwoo wasn't able to. In the lyric, Sunwoo rapped "i break this taboo for a dangerous and radiant beauty that no one dared to do" Through this, The Boyz broke the mold and became peaches (peach blossom signifies shangri-la) in order to create their own paradise in the real world. So in the end, Younghoon did not call the members to Shangri-La but instead he traverses through the doors (wooden -> regular world -> shangri-la, the flower door -> regular world) to be with The Boyz in the regular world where they've created their own paradise. Hope this backstory helps to clear up the questions and why it is important to peel back such performances layer by layer in order to understand it so that you will appreciate the performance on a whole.

Mathew

Jeff, I need for you to watch Vixx's version of Shangri La specifically their 2017 remix version of Shangri-La. The way that N captures your attention is just crazy. As much as I enjoyed The Boyz version Shangri-La it didn't grab my attention. And this has nothing to do with more energetic songs because Vixx did a live version on Dingo where they just stood in their outfits and I was still absorbed in their performance. There was something lacking there I can't really name. The dance was beautiful though. But please go watch the 2017 gayo version and dingo live version. BTS gave them a standing ovation for it.

Erley

HAHA okay now you’re talking! (Re: Chan and Jin) lol

seth james

“That damn Wooseok” 😂😂 I feel you! Lol. Yeah I loved the arrangement!

seth james

😂😂

seth james

I didn’t 😭

seth james

I agree (re: people preferring dark and intense). I LOVE beautiful elegant pieces and I wish they got more recognition. I think The Boyz did it with that performance. There are a lot of opportunity for elegant pieces to showed off, but that would mean really putting in technical jumps and insane turns etc for the audience to fully appreciate it. Unfortunately, unless the groups are well trained in those, it may not work. I see what you mean with Pentagon. They’re gonna need to flip it quite a bit to make it to Kingdom.

seth james

Yeah it was quite beautiful! It was nice to see a different side to them!

seth james

Yeah I probably won’t listen to the finale songs because I want to be surprised haha. And yeah I realized later on I got sunwoo and juyeon mixed up ahha. Too bad some of them got injured :( I wonder if they had to modify the performance to accommodate those injured members.

seth james

Yeah I think they want for 2 to go as well. Cause I don’t think they’d add that rule if they don’t intend on using it.

seth james

Oh yeah that would be interesting to see!

seth james

a survival show which i recommend you watch if you haven’t already is The Unit. Most of the participants are from already debuted groups who haven’t got a chance and are practically unknown. Honestly, you’ll fall in love with so many different talented boys and girls and how they haven’t blown yet is beyond me. An inventive is that both Jun and Chan from A.C.E are in it

linaa

omg same though, i was really worried when i saw they were doing shangri-la, i wanted them to prove me wrong but...

linaa

The Unit would be fun

BaoziBang

i don't remember my list, but the boys were 1stfor me, pentagon was 2nd , ONF was 3rd. i just finished watching by myself 2 days ago and I'm still shook how pentagon came in fuckin 3rd place. i feel like anyone who knows follow would say their arrangement alone to the song was iconic as heck. they always kill with their performances (performance kings) especially that damn wooseok

Sham Sham

My List was ONF, Pentagon, Verivery, The Boyz, Oneus and TOO last. Tbz were pretty much fxxked once I realized they would do a contemporary dance to Vixx because this Man is Vixx's Main Dancer and I knew immediately I would compare them with him and they would loose because N dances in a really... Unique kind of style. You should check him out, I think you will like him! https://youtu.be/VOi7nVJuo0o

BaoziBang

If it aint the boyz, its rigged lol. They’re on another level.

Mac

For this round it was: The Boyz, Oneus, TOO, ONF, VERIVERY, Pentagon for me. But as always, all were so good! Feel like it comes down to personal preferences... I would love to watch you react to Hit the stage! So many awesome dance there as well.

Camilla Helen Wickstrøm

I would love to see you React to Hit the Stage. Especially because no one has ever done Reactions to the Show as a whole instead of just the Performances.

BaoziBang

Hey Jeff, did you notice that The Boyz actually spelled out Vixx, which is the group name of the group who’s song they performed, during their performance?

Sarah Zimmerli

i'd love to have hit the stage reactions!!!

twomillionmerits

Here are some of my comments/opinions regarding this week's performances: 1. I do agree that Pentagon's performance alone deserves first place but what made me not like it as much as I should've was the arrangement of the song itself. Not only was the rap verse too "shouty" (to a point that it wasn't even rap anymore but just them screaming lyrics), but some of the synths used in the rearrangement were really annoying and bugged me throughout the performance. But I loved all of the vocal work throughout the song and Hui's high notes were just beautiful. Hui is an amazing producer but this show has clearly taken a huge toll on him (especially this round since he had to produce two songs) and I feel that it shows in his arrangement. The biggest criticism I've seen comment about pentagon's performances is that they have all been pretty similar (besides Shine + Spring Snow) and lack growth. In a competition where each team has been constantly showing new and better performances each week, pentagon seems to be struggling to keep up with the other groups. Although they did rank second from the group evaluation, they were fifth in audience votes. I really like pentagon and I do want them to go on Kingdom but if they don't switch it up, I'm afraid they might not make it. 2. Commenting on the commentary you made about The Boyz's performance being more exciting in the first half: although I do agree that it was definitely more intense the first half, I think the second half is just as interesting as the first because that's were the story evolves from them "losing their paradise" to creating their own "paradise". The Boyz's performance is my personal favorite as it not only shows a new side of the Boyz that we haven't seen before, but it played well with the original song without making it seem like a cover. Unfortunately, it seems as though people in this competition seem to prefer darker and more intense performance over elegant and softer performances (*cough* Golden Child) which is why they were third from group votes and second in audience votes

Sharon

Knetz. 😔💀

Omayma

I reacted so loudly to pentagons performance that my mom rushed up the stairs to see if I was ok. 😅 I genuinely can't believe they got 5th place in this. It makes me sad. :( I ranked The Boyz, ONF and ONEUS as top 3 for this round though. I loved their performances, ONEUS' concept was so well executed and ONF had amazing song arrangement, it was really a performance that made you smile while watching it. The Boyz where just insane, again. I loved the contemporary style and the way they've linked their performances together through the moon and the way they expressed the growth of the flowers was just genius. And the costume design... A* They looked like actual flower blossoms with those "skirts" and how they then got transformed into props, amazing. Anyways, love your reaction and analysis as always. :)

LisMM

thank you for the reaction alot..... actually tbz performed with 3 injured members... 2 of them danced and the 3rd couldnt because it was a back and shoulder injury issue, he was the one to open and close the performance as well the one who went behind the projector thingyy... but the others who had knees injuries did the performance.... what I loved abouut the boyz performance away from it has less surprise factor and less intensity it showed a total different side of them and new concept for the show.... since there was alot of dark concept and a heavy movie concepts... this was lit, actually none of them had a ballet dance background nor modern dance.. .except one which is Juyeon the one who was lifted at the beginning.... and btw the one you mentioned at first of the eps wasnt juyeon it is Sunwoo the main rapper.... Juyeon the one who cried with blue hair...he is one of the 2 main dancers..... sorry I talked only about tbz since obv I'm their fan :Sweating: but yeah thank you for the feedback and reaction I always love it, BTW with onf their arrangement was great,,, that is a very famous song in Korea from a very famous soloist.... so it also adds up to it with the perfect arrangement that's why Korea loved it alot too! BTW I hope you can react to the songs for the final.. they got released yesterday as audios only,,,,, Unless you dont want to spoil yourself until then xd thanks again

Ally Gichan

Even more shocking is that Pentagon didn't even got 3rd with their performance this round. They actually got the 5th place, out of 6. I honestly don't understand that ranking at all, but I might also be biased ...

Isa

Omgosh please please please check out hit the stage. That would be awesome!!

LisMM

I'm thinking it will be 2 groups that go instead of one because I don't think the Boyz will take the 1st place for the overall competition. I think ONF and The Boyz are going to Kingdom. If the rumored groups are actually going to one Kingdom ONF's artistry will definitely help them out. Because those other groups will definitely rely on big tricks. I'm saying this as fans of most.

Erley

For the future show to watch HIT THE STAGE it's a amazing idea After I don't know if it's a good idea but maybe survival show (I don't know if you saw someone of them) ? Even if they are old and it's hard (because oblivious elimination etc) I think you could find greats artists/groups maybe underrated to watch after all of this. As survival show, I don't know if you saw it already but THE UNIT? Taemin was judge in this and they had so many greats dancer (Feeldog, Euijin, Timoteo..) that we don't talk about. Another maybe Queendom (idk if you watched it already) ? I know its girlsgroup but I find it interesting because it's the female version of Kingdom/RTK.

elise

Since you mentioned about it, like The Boyz, ONF also have videos on their youtube of their recording sessions and dance practices too

Isra Alkindi

All your ideas for future show reactions are great. I really like Hit The Stage. There is an amazing music related show named The Call. It is not really kpop related, although there are idols in it. But its amazing, one of my favorite music related shows. There are two seasons, but only the first is subbed. I really recommend it. The best thing is that the ‘competition’ is not really cut throat, its really just about the music and enjoying it together.
