We first saw him in Kings Landing as a prisoner being transported to The Wall. WHY WAS HE THERE??? Being that he is such a skilled assassin and has this magical ability to change his appearance, how did he get taken prisoner? Was he there to assassinate someone? Was being caught and taken to the Nights Watch part of his plan to get to the person he was hired to kill? Can you book readers tell me if this is explained in the books? Some speculate that he was hired by Littlefinger to kill Ned Stark. But of course that was no longer necessary after Joffrey had Ned beheaded. Before Joffrey did that, the plan was to send Ned to The Wall.
